View Full Version : Nanocom capability - correct speedometer reading?

I have found that the Disco IIA I just bought has a speedometer that reads UNDER road speed. About 5% lower than actual speed, compared with a phone GPS speedo app. It cost me $425 to find this out ... (booked on freeway travelling from Adelaide to Melbourne). As we are all aware, speedos normally have errors in the other direction, reading about 4-5% higher than actual speed. Unfortunately, I was bargaining on this when I set the cruise control.
How can I fix this (apart from ditching the 5 brand new Cooper tyres that appear to be oversize)?
Is the Nanocom able to adjust the speedo reading?
If not, do I have any other options? Can a Land Rover workshop do anything? As I'm likely to have the car for a while, I might order a Nanocom if it will do this...
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I think this topic has been covered in another thread.
Within nanacom their is a speed correction function - but I understand this is only for the nanacom reading and does not change the actual speedometer in the vehicle.
Other option is to track your speed via a GPS and mark your instrument panel where the true speed is in relationship to the displayed speed.

I have a defender which I put in a disco lt230 and needed a 'speedo healer' to get my cruise to work. I put it in line between the speedo and ecu, you need it between the speedo sensor on the transfer case and the speedo.

$130 plus shipping, you need the speedo healer unit plus the universal harness. Wire it in (easy job) and set a correction figure of plus 7% or so. Happy Days [bigsmile1]

a big note about the speedo healer.
My brother found out the hard way .. they're no good for the Disco.
Disco2 uses the ABS sensors, whereas the Defender uses a speedo drive unit in the driveline(as already said).
You need the Hunter Di box. This is the easiest product to source at the moment.
We couldn't find any sources for the TruSpeed.
Hunter Di still answers emails, and that's how you'd acquire one.
The Nanocom can't adjust the speedo(on your cluster), but can be set to show a percentage less than what your speedo shows using the adjustment feature.
So it only shows you (in instrument mode) it's own speedo reading. Your (cluster)speedo will still show lower readings.

I may have a solution - JAYCAR has a new speedometer corrector device that I've bought ($44.95) - CORRECTOR SPEEDO MODULE (shouldn't it be a 'Speedo Corrector Module?).
It's powered from the ignition and just requires the pink/grey (KG) speedometer pulse wire into the instrument binnacle to be cut, with each end connected to the small JAYCAR box.
Reading the instructions, fitment & calibration (I'll use a GPS speedo app on my phone) looks straightforward - it's supposed to auto detect the signal type. This is newer than the JAYCAR kit that has been found to not work with Disco 2s, so I'm hoping it will work ...
I'll see if I can install it this weekend and post my results.

Dont bother, it won't work with a D2.
The D2 has a 1Hz base signal, the Jaycar corrector doesn't allow this signal through. Without that signal the speedo will not work. Several people before you have tried it, and all have failed.
The Hunter DI Spares C6100-4 defiantly works 100%.
