1967 series 1/axles

G'day all,
My wife and I are about to get our hands on a 1967 series 1 and it is in pretty good nick as it has been maintained all it's life. Would like to know if we can upgrade the axles to make it stronger, because the owner has broken a few whilst driving on Fraser Island( He told us). We believe it is a ute, but it has a canopy on the back, and it is still registered.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Being a 1967 it will be a Ser2A.
The rear Rover diff is prone to snapping axles,there are stronger than standard axles available.
Its pretty common to upgrade to the Series3 Sailsbury diff at the rear,a much stronger unit.
Goodluck with the new Landy,always plenty of help here when its needed.

yes you can upgrade the axles without changing the whole axle casing. a company called Maxi-drive, located on the gold coast(0755 303934) make replacement axles for every landrover made.

they're made from "hytuf" a very strong aviation grade steel. they also make alot of other goodies for LR's

Thanks guys. we are going to do a couple of things to it to make it a bit more reliable. We are going to try to keep it in as original cond as possible as it has served the wifes father for over 30 years and there is alot of sentiment with it.

If it is 1967 it is most definately a Series 2a and if it has the bent-up handbrake it would be a suffix "D" chassis which were NEGITIVE EARTH as all others previously were Pos earth, has it still got the 4cyl motor or has it got a Holden in it ? the 4cylinder 2.25 Ltre has max torque at about 2400 revs https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ so it doesn't need to be wound-up to debog :wink: If the Drive-ends have wear in them (they are the bits at the outer end of the axles held on by 6 bolts ) they will tend to be the axle snapping culprits, ask father-in-law if axles were snapped on the outer ends ? if so they may need renewing, about $50 bucks a side from the mob in Melbourne, they advertise at the top of the forum hope this is of some help
