I just ducked down to the local servo for a bottle of milk, it's on fire, the servo not the milk.

but an incident like this is very unfortunate for the business operator/owner/employee(s)

It was only a small fire, I reckon they'll be open tomorrow. I don't know if it was the servo or one of the five eateries there. It's not an owner operated servo but some of the food outlets are.

When I was in primary school at Albury in the mid-Fifties, I remember our teacher collecting our milk (remember when we were given milk at school?) and pouring it all into a pot over the fire and making us all hot chocolate in winter.

(I don't think schools would have fireplaces anymore nor allow the teacher to make us hot chocolate!)

I remember those days, Ron. A third of a pint in glass bottles, from a gal, steel crate.

In Melbourne, in summer, it was often a third of a pint of sour cream.

One of my best memories as a kid was sneaking out of the house, early, to go down to the dairy ( no cows, this was the suburbs ) and ride out with the milko on his cart. Horse was smarter than him, I reckon.

Our school milk was delivered early, and kept in a cupboard until playlunch ( little lunch? sigh, banana benders... ) when it was usually warm. It could be nearly 40 in Melb by then, in Feb. Still can.

The condensation was still on the bottle when we got ours, albeit just cool.

I wish.

In winter, however, we had to break through the "ice" on top. It probably was ice, from the same condensation.
