km/h speedo for series 2a - part number ?

Hi All,

I need some work done on my current mph speedo, and I am wondering if it might be as economically viable to simply install a km/h speedo instead. I can find the series 3 km/h speed easily (part number prc2607), but it's not clear to me if that unit also suits series 2a or if there is a separate part number.

Any guidance appreciated.

I'm using a S3 speedo with trip meter in my S1, I see no reason why it can't be used in a S2 or 2a. You may have to replace your screw on speedo cable with a clip on one..W.

Excellent, good to know. Craddocks have the S3 km/h speedo for 126 GBP which I think is quite reasonable compared to the cost of refurbing my old one, although I have already bought bezels and glass to refurb both 4 instruments.

If I was to refurb the old speedo, I need those plastic colour light lenses, I think they are called "jewels", green, blue and yellow. Is it possible to buy these jewels somewhere ?

Series 3 speedo can be fitted to Suffix D onwards but you need the Series 3 cable as well, since the fitting to the speedo is different.

Australian rovers mostly have local made 16 inch rims-not always.

88 had 6.00x16 tyres as standard, 109 had 7.50 tyres as standard. These were optional on the 88 and came with the 109 speedo. Uncommon on early 88s in Australia as delivered, more common by the end of Series 2a production, and effectively standard in Australia by the end of Series 3 production.

Sorry, can't help with lenses.

In my suffix G Series 2a 109, the current mph speedo has "1408" written as expected, meaning 1408 turns per mile for 7.50 x 16 size tyres. So presumably the Series 2a km/h speedo (part number 540134) would have a number indicating turns per kilometer, and I calculate that would need to be 1408 x 0.621371 = 875. However, in the listing for 540134 on PA Blanchand's website for this speedo :

I think I can make out the numbers 888. Does that make sense ?

Ive no idea. I just took mine out of a 109 s3 and changed it over. The mph one that was in my 109 s2a was way out of whack anyway. The needle was always showing i was doing 70+mph at full noise on the flat. For a very heavy 109 with an athol hedges steel roof and sides... ...i dont think so...lol

The speedo in my 2a - out of a S3 109 - has 860. The exact ratio used will depend on possible sets of gears in the odometer drive, and may have changed slightly from time to time. Either 888 or 860 would be probably within tolerance to be equivalent to 875. Or perhaps the number you are trying to read is "860"?
