View Full Version : UHF Placement & installation in a D2?

Ok folks,
I have a GME TX4000, and will probably be installing it either 2moro or on the weekend.
I have a mounting bracket, not a dashpod or anything similar.
Was looking at putting it on roof, front centre, or behind/beside centre console, or right hand side of transmission tunnel (next to drivers L leg)
So, I was wondering.....
where have any D2 (or other) owners installed their UHF's? Got any pics?
Are there any hints. advice, tips etc., you good folk can give me, before I get into it.
(Spank you very little in advance for all the sarcastic replies) https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I like that option Zook, and am considering it, although it would have to contend with school bags, and a few children getting in and out.
Does anyone make a 7 seater trailer :?: :!: https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I couldn't find an easy spot for mine so went the Opposite Lock D2 pod, the pod can accomodate 2 radios.
I have had it in for 2 years now and don't even notice it now, plus if I move to another vehicle I can take it with me without leaving holes in whereever I fixed it to

I think mine is the same model UHF as yours. I mounted mine on the right hand side of the tranmission tunel. It gives me something to rest my leg against on long trips 8) .
I will have a look next time I drive the Discovery and try to post a pic or two.

If you had a GME 3400 you could have mounted the body under the dash and the remote head above high low level.

I suppose you could do yours the same as mine, but I think mine is probably wider than yours.
Just stuff it between the passenger seat and the console  8O https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

I would not mount it next to your leg on the drivers side as you will find it a pain. You will defiantly notice the change in comforts factor if your leg will rest against it, will depend if you have long legs or short legs with the room factor.
With that unit if not mounted on the dash in a pod is the rear of the centre console.

Sorry guys Defender owner here just wanna put my 0.02c worth in.
I try to keep all my electric gizmo's up off the floor - the higher up the better.
Just in case you have to cross a flooded river or something and water gets in - if you forget to turn off your radio then it is fried.
Something to keep in mind...
Cheers,
Glenn.

Mine used to be mounted on the passenger side of the trans tunnel but I found I couldn't easily reach/read it when driving, so I moved it up next to the rear view mirror and angled it slightly so I can see it, works a treat and means I can see/adjust very easily whilst on the move.

OK happy snap time.

Went for this position for ease of use and less likely to get damaged - in travel or by little fingers https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Just another pic - was surprised how easy the installation was actually.

Aerial front view - nice compact, still fits in the garage (unlike the rear of the car - but's that's another post to come)

hey...what exactly did you screw the radio to....?
the plastic wont be strong enough to hold the weight...especially over the big bumps.....
you may need to wear a helmet.....unless you screwed it to the metal roof support....

Yeah, but it should grip on the finger no worries.
Cheers
