new speed camera setup (https://mypolice.qld.gov.au/blog/2017/07/21/new-combined-red-light-speed-camera-site-average-p2p-speed-camera-sites/)
“The aim of these cameras is to deter drivers from speeding or disobeying red light signals as the consequences of this risky behaviour is known to contribute to road crashes,” Assistant Commissioner Keating said.

Same as the ACT had all that for years and years.
It is about time that QLD caught up to the rest of us.

Been a main source of govt income in SA for years, when a large percentage of population is on a benefit or pension, and business is waning....there's gold in dem dere cameras.

I'm still amazed I haven't been pinged by the average speed one on Hindmarsh Drv, or speed/red light camera on the short 60km/h stretch through Woden.
I didn't even realise it was 60km/h past the Southern Cross Club until one of the apprentices pointed it out recently. [bigwhistle]

State Govs. will stop at nothing to get more money to waste but of course speed cameras are only used to save lives according to them. We even get cops on the ramps on and off the freeway in WA where common sense says there's virtually no danger in either speeding up to merge or allowing speed to drop off after leaving the freeway.
But the recent ex commissioner for road safety was adamant the law is the law and that's it.
With idiots like him in charge what's the chances of ever getting decent policing of the all road rules?

I know of at least two red light cameras that is only set up to catch drivers unaware.First intersection. Camera is only set up for one half of the intersection. Depending on which way you travel. Lights are either just bellow or just after a crest. So they set up the camera to catch divers coming over the crest with little time to react to the lights or the camera. No need to have a came camera working on the other half of the intersection as drivers have a clear view. There is no warnings signs prior to the lights in either direction. That is the bit that I don`t like. No signs indicating lights ahead or a camera in the area. If they had those I would accept the camera. At least give motorists a clear warning and then if they choose to run a red light so be it.The other is on a sloping road. Camera is on the down slope side of the intersection. Seen plenty of cars and trucks pull up just over the line and the camera goes off. Yet again there is no camera on the up slope side of the road. Drivers have no problem stopping. At least with this intersection there is a small sign off to the side indicating a camera is in the area. You just have to look for it.

Found out about one in Perth a couple of years ago....
Was travelling past Cadoux when my son became non responsive, an hour later I was in Perth heading down Guildford road, through the Garrett road intersection and bam, full hit in the eyes with a speed camera mounted in a box on the intersection... 96 in a 60 zone(I had slowed down, as anyone who knows where Cadoux is will tell you, I was motoring)...
Gave the police a copy of the hospital report and the time entering emergency plus the number of a senior ambo from where I worked(I had phoned for advice thats why I headed straight to Perth)...
No fine, just a letter saying its accepted about the reason and all the best to my son...
Never knew they had a speed camera there, "but I do now"
Some will argue the benefits, but look at NT history about the speed restrictions imposed then lifted... Saving lives??? people showing consideration and caution will save more, increased fines just increases revenue, and you keep the stats going up and up....each increase in fines will increase offences... Stupid, hey, but thats what happens...

Where can I go for holidays now?
King Island.
That's where I first got my driver's licence. There were three coppers on the island at the time - one in Grassy (where my family lived) and two in Currie. It was common to see kids as young as 12 or 13 driving their dad's car around the island - as long as you kept to a decent speed, didn't lay wheelies and didn't drive like a dickhead in general, the coppers didn't mind at all.
Haven't been back there for years ................ should make the effort one of these days. [biggrin]

No cameras, no radar, no breath tests , i feel neglected , and no traffic lights , and very few signs
Years ago PNG Police got some breathalyzers, after the first court case it was established there was no legislation [biggrin] the contest then became who could get the highest score [tonguewink][tonguewink] terrible but true [bighmmm]

AutoMate. It is like a dashboard for the car. Handles navigation, music, calls/texts, etc. Have it on the mounted tablet in my D2. Works a treat!

With all the talk about these "driverless cars" for the future, I wonder what the source of highway revenue will be?
I assume these vehicles will be programmed to totally comply with all road traffic regulations.
Cheers, Mick.

You'd want auto update enabled, they'll change the speed limits continuously.

They are getting sneaky that's for sure. There has been a car driving around our town the last week towing a trailer with a lawnmower in it - an unmarked Cop car pulling people up. First time I though well maybe he was just on his way home with a mower to do his lawns, but I've seen it twice now and my Son also saw someone pulled up by him yesterday still with the trailer and mower.

They are resorting to all sorts of tricks these days. Spotted a small delivery van in a truck parking bay near Townsville with the headlights on and the front passenger door open - you guessed it - flash for cash.

I hope the mower was correctly secured in the trailer. ;)
