Hey folks,
So i finished my Disco 1 V8 project a while back (you may have noticed by my lack of posts recently!) - then i did up an old 1989 4Runner, rebuilt a nice new 22R and dropped it in, turned it into a very nice vehicle(bullbar, winch, built a roofrack, 38 weber, header, hiflow exhaust, new suspension etc). Took the disco across Australia and back once, then took the 4Runner across and down into Tassie and back.
I am now toying with the idea of doing up an old series land rover. My only practical experience with them is a series 2a LWB that i kept running on the farm that we plowed with! But it has a holden red engine in it.
I have a few queries about the series landys - Not sure about series 1, 2 or 3...
I read up a bit on the 2.25L petrol and they seem nice to me (strong/reliable - as they are based on a diesel design?), coming from my 22R 2.4L toyo background.
Are the series 1 landys super simple compared to series 2 or are they similar?
Are the series 3 much more refined or are they simliar?
Are any of the series landys good tourers (highway speeds) or are they more of just weekend vehicles?
In a perfect world i would get a 22R engine dropped into a short wheelbase landy! That would cost a fortune to have done right?
Series landrovers would be super noisy on the highway? I would stick sound absorption material on the doors and floor i think?
I know our landy used to put a lot of heat through the firewall - there was no insulation - is that normal?
I am down south in WA, if someone is located down here and wants to show off their series landy to someone... :)
