Prep work for the rest of the body almost done. It reminds me of painting an old house. Every time you look you see another thing that should be tidied up.

Cameo reversion

Cameo? As in cameo appearance? [bigwhistle]

Yep Zambezi metallic particles were to hard to get right. And I often regretted this colour choice. In retrospect I would have picked white or cameo.

Sorry Ron. I just got it. No cameo as in camou or camouflage.
I blame auto correct.

Well I had some novice dramas on Saturday. I started with a new bigger gravity gun and it just spat out lumps, took ages to get through 800ml of paint and thinners. I thought it was the gun. I persisted for about 3hrs. Then the old direct drive died. It got me through a first coat as pictured in the previous post. Today I spent a couple of hours sanding the lumps away. I hired a twin belt drive from Bunnings, wow what a lazy lump. Just chugged along. I also pulled out the new tin light tan. To see if that made a difference. It did after a bit of gun adjustment. I was a bit worried about using the cam brown and green which was similar age to the first coat, but was ok. Here's the result. Not quite to plan but time got away and had to get the compressor back.

What brand and type of paint are you using ,and what company are you getting it off?

Another pic unwrapped.

Most of the paint was Protec. The last tin was Concept Paints.

Looks good. What size nozzle on the gun? Had similar issues is all.

rar110
11th September 2017, 04:59 PM
Tip was 1.4 I think.

Vern
11th September 2017, 05:19 PM
I think i went from 1.4 which came on the gun to a 2.0 and the paint then went on beautifully. 1.4 was splattery and dry.

Vern

Also do you have a build thread on this car?

rar110
11th September 2017, 05:37 PM
I had a 2.0. I should have given it a try.

I've had this Perentie since 2001. First got it on the road in 2006. I think I put up some pics back then.

A progress photo. Nearly there. Thank you again Roverlord Offroad Spares for some last minute parts.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/09/485.jpg

I started it today for the 1st time in nearly 3 years. With junk and water in the fuel it didn't run for long. Cleaned the water trap, drained the tank, and changed the inline pre filter and factory spin on filter. I think I have an air leak as it doesn't want to start.

The stop control was also seized up and got very hot when it couldn't move. Gave it a couple of taps with a soft hammer, which freed it up.

The motor is running very nicely now, and did a oil and filter change. Also there was the usual sludge in the water trap.

The stop control is still playing up. I will have to track one down before it dies. Anyone sourced one lately?

I remember reading a thread a few months back. Not sure if it was on here or REMLR.

Sometimes when I turn key to accessory position the stop control doesn't operate to turn fuel on or there is a delay activating. Sometimes when turning the motor off there is a delay in the stop control activating to cut fuel.

Decided to put some tar sheet in the ceiling to help reduce noise reverberations inside the cabin. I drove the 110 years ago before and after fitting the roof lining. Even lining alone made a big difference. I'm hoping fitting this product will help even more. This is on top of similar or same product I put elsewhere in the 110 years ago. Here's the product I used, sold through most Autobahn stores, and where I put it. Each box has 2 sheets 12"x24". It's better value than dynamat.

I’d forgotten how easy this car is to drive in soft sand.

As a bonus I used it to do a recovery on the BIL’s NP Paj, up hill in sand when he couldn’t go forward or back. So nice having to pull out a 2006 with a 1989 old tech Perentie with 1 or 2 mechanical tweats.

The stop control packed it in just before we came to Moreton. Here’s the solution.

Ta Brian. That’s appreciated.

Thankfully, no show stoppers during the Moreton trip. The wife’s relatives who borrowed the 110 for this trip had no Land Rover previous ownership. But the hubby, who was a IT geek (Java programmer) had relatives in the UK on a farm with a LR, who really connected with the machine nature of it. He also liked the waves and enjoyed repeated strangers randomly approaching and paying accolades to the vehicle.

Took the 110 & RAAF trailer for a run today. The 1st time I’ve had both out for about 3 years.
