View Full Version : Can I borrow your Landrover?

That's what a mate asked me. He was pruning a couple of km of grapes. He needed it for a weekend to cart the prunings to where they're going to burn them.
"Yes." I said, of course.

Three weeks later, I asked how he was going with the job. "I can see why you like that Landrover so much." he replied.

A further three weeks later, I called around to his place. "I need to use the Landrover on the weekend."
"Yes." he said, "You can borrow it."

I'm sitting here, feeling a little confused. Why did I drop the Landrover back at his place?

A) Hiding it from Mummsie.
B) You can't fit it in your yard.
C) He keeps it in a shed.
D) All of the above.

I once lent my restored mini to a mate... Months later when it came back, it wasn't the same.. Sometimes it doesn't pay to be nice... :(

Never lend anything unless your prepared to not get it back . ( Especially tools & money)

I'd never be so daft as to lend a LandRover

I've often had friends ask if they can borrow my chainsaw & I always reply "yes ........... but it comes with me as the operator".

It occurs to me that most of these replies seem to put LRs in a similar category to wives.

I was going to mention that old saying about chainsaws and wives being the two things you never, ever loan. [biggrin]

Hmmmm......

Well, this thread hasn't gone where I expected it to. I find it rather sad.
The mate I lent my Landrover to, I'd lend it to him again, in a heartbeat.

That is, of course, assuming I get it back.
I may have to borrow it for Wombat.

Back in the 'day' a man would share his cigarettes, but never his pipe.

There was some loose association made with the above, with respect to mistresses and wives from memory.

Anyway, I had a bad experience lending a chainsaw to a bunch of mates 30 years ago and that is my no go.

cheers, DL

I have leant many things, and will always lend to help someone out of a bad situation. But, if someone needs tools, or power tools, just to do their stuff, then why can't they buy their own? Then they can experience for themselves what it's like when they neglect to put oil in the chain tank, or use straight petrol in a two stroke, or hit a nail or stone with their chainsaw, or run a mower with a broken blade, or use a screwdriver as a chisel, or a level as a hammer, or a myriad of other transgressions without the luxury of having someone else to pay for it, namely me. All those things have happened to me.

Fifty years ago I lent my 2a (and my caravan) to my best friend for his honeymoon. The Landrover came back in good shape and promptly, but the caravan had a fresh hole in the fron where he managed to put the corner of the trayback into it while backing!

My friend later was my best man at my wedding.

Generous man Mick. Riding a BMW K100 from Sydney to Melbourne. Some how mixed in with a group of 8 other bikes who all seemed to stop for fuel ever 150-200km. Gent on a harley asked if we could swap bikes for a while. After 50km of his bone rattling hog it was clear to me why the grin on his face on my smooth lamb skin covered seat was so obvious. My butt was not enjoying his seat or bike at all [bigsad]

Rewarded! It is fermenting. Here's hoping it does turn into wine.

If it doesn't turn into wine, you can always pour it over your fish and chips, Mick.

Not a problem.
Hitch up my tandem. Plonk your S3 on it. Take it to Dave. Drop off the tandem. Then, off home.
Simples!

Towing your tandem behind the D2, I presume? Might be a while...
