Unaccustomed as I am to public speaking, on occasion I am asked to address rooms full of strangers. The thoughts are clear and structured, the words are rehearsed and written on prompt cards in large typeface.

Then the moment of truth arrives preceded by the dry throat. Then all that work turns into jelly-ed knees, stumbling diction and unintelligible drivel. 8O

The secret to terror free public speaking it seems is here:

I've cancelled my membership of Toastmasters.

Yep its a well known technique which I have used many times.

After I have inflated the doll and done the deed - the public speaking part is a breeze.

Although sometimes a bit light headed

She'll probably wave me goodbye
