I think if he did say that stuff on balance it reflects badly on him. It must have been horribly boring for the bloke to have tagged along for so long but still............

I've read a book quoting his "Gaffes" and, for the most part, found them witty and relevant to the situation he was in. At least he had the balls to "Tell it straight" to people, especially a few poseurs i.e. the designer for one.
I loathe fawning by anyone but especially by people in high office.

He's certainly not politically correct.

Apart from being racist and xenophobic I'm sure he's a top bloke.

If you mean he's white, then yes, he is.

Well known fact that all whiteys are racist, xenophobic, homophobic and every other "ist" or "ic"
you can think of.
I,d rather a bloke like Phil than some creep who cuddles up to everyone because they are afraid of upsetting some minority and losing favour.....

Is that a LSE with early steel wheels. The rear door looks big but had exposed hinges.
I found the gaffs I've heard quite amusing, mostly probably on purpose.

If you mean he's white, then yes, he is.No I mean he makes broad sweeping statements in a derogatory way about other cultures. That's called being racist.

No. Culturist, maybe. Culture is not race.

AlanH.Bull****. Being a closed minded bigot makes you racist, not the colour of your skin. I'm white. And I'm not xenophobic, homophobic or racist. Shock horror. I base my view of the world on being a good person and the principle of merit.
Another over used term is "politically correct" in a negative way by people who mostly enjoy being a-holes. It's called being polite. And there's nothing bad bout it.

The bull**** comment could of course, in certain quarters, be misconstrued as being a tad impolite.
But you're only human.

But you're only human.Of course [emoji12]. My most humble apologies. But I do feel a tad worked up when people famous or not are discriminatory in any way. There is just no need for it.

Prince Phillip is "Prince Phillip", a very special man who has supported our Queen (& his Wife) in a very special way, during which times He has made some very "Prince Phillip" type remarks, which possibly only He could "get away" with.
I think He's done a marvelous job, and I wish him well for his remaining years on the Planet.

I tell you what, hasn't he been around for a long time...
I remember thinking he was an old man, when I was going to school on a horse...
I wonder if the Queen will put a letter in the mail to him when he reaches 100...
On the point of his comments or questions, I think he askes things that other would like to ask but are too scared to...
On tv it was pointed out that he asked some Aboriginals if "they still threw spears at each other"...
I remember my mates being asked those kind of questions, back in the early 80's and laughing at the tourists... But at the pub they would laugh there heads off, and even one would make it sound like he was still in the 1800's and carry on... It was not regarded as racist, these guys would regard it as the tourists having a lack of knowledge...
My sons best friend is from Meekatharra, I took him around to meet a friend of mine(he is a two cylinder, two wheel tractor driver(Harley Davidson)) and my friend asked where his family are from, he said Scotland... My friend didnt know what to say but then asked "Arn't you Aboriginal", James said "on one side of the family, others are Scots... My friend wasn't being racist, he was curious.. James regards himself as member of the planet Earth... Scottish/Aboriginal, but no different to the rest of us...
Mind you, he can stir the best pot and come out a winner...
If we broadened our shoulders and joked about life and things more, then we would all get along better... Seriousness just makes things harder...

I understand what you are saying but I think you have been quite selective with the quotes. I'm glad he has stepped down , he used to make me cringe.
