Yesterday evening my wife and two daughters were travelling home in the 2008 Puma when she lost power and stopped. Temperature gauge normal and no warning lights. Long story cut short the header tank was low on water so they went to houses and got water. Later my wife stopped again and they got more water. While stopped she noticed a red warning light on the dash. There was none lit before and she understands to stop as soon as she sees one. My wife and older daughter began to get worried. Suddenly a voice from the middle row says. "THAT IS THE HANDBRAKE" and so it was. These words of wisdom came from my younger daughter who has Down Syndrome.
All this time I was getting phone calls and updates. They finally arrived home in the dark. A quick examination by flashlight revealed a loose water hose.
This morning I was up bright and early to check it out. This is what I found. The clip
on the hose was too far up and there was nothing gripping the hose. This hose joins onto this junction (second photo). Over time it had worked itself up off the join.
It is awkward to replace. I removed the existing clip and replaced it with a hose clip and got the pipe reconnected. Then it was a 1/4 drive ratchet and a 7mm socket and lots of small turns to tighten the clip. Finally got it done.
I topped up the coolant and it took about 3 or four litres. Most of it came out when I disturbed the pipe last night.
I did an oil/filter change incase there was excess heat in the engine but as the gauge stayed bang on halfway throughout hopefully everything is O.K..
When topping up the coolant I put in a bit too much as I thought she was lower than she was so I syphoned some out...and got a mouthful of antifreeze. I've being rinsing my mouth out ever since
Next I managed to drop my ratchet and socket into the used oil when removing the oil filter housing
Ah well things could have been SO much worse 127400127401

A good whisky mouthwash should finish that job. Well done.

Must check if the Autofactors stock any when I'm in getting more antifreeze.[bigwhistle]

Been to the Autofactors.
"Got any hoseclips about that size?"
"Yes, how many do you want?"
"Two will do, and 5 litres of 5 year antifreeze please"
"Anything else?"
"Got any whiskey. It's been recommended to me as a mouthwash"
"No, but we can order it in...just the unbranded stuff"

Hey Spudfan
I find Lagavulin works the best as the delicious smokey peat flavour kills the foul taste of the glycol. [wink11]
Cheers Ian

The unbranded stuff from Autofactors should do the trick. Then finish the job with half a bottle of Black Bush.
I was introduced to Lagavulin by an ex-girlfriend. It is a very fine whisky if you have to resort to Scotch.
Mind you...That ex-girlfriend's next boyfriend was a girlfriend. [bigwhistle]

U know that if u have a container with old oil or coolant in it and u drop any spanner or socket or screwdriver it will always drop into it. Almost without fail if ur working on vehicles. Its Murphys law. It HAS to happen.

I didn't order "anything else" in at the Autofactors, as I was afraid it would spoil the taste of the antifreeze.[bigrolf][bigrolf]

The "unbranded stuff" from the Autofactors is also good at starting your roaring fire![biggrin]. Would'nt want to do that with the Lagavulin. I'd be branded a heathen.....

Yes. I draw the line at Johnny Walker Blue Label.
Tip: Get your Barby really hot. Throw your steaks on, followed immediately by a good splash of whisky. This seers the steak immediately and ads a nice malty caramel to the flavour.

spudfan.. You simply must give up this antifreeze. You'll come to a sticky end. Your abdominal cavity will become a barrel of pink sludge, similar to the stuff they make Burger Patties with. Think of your wife and children man.:o

Oh dear, the grapevine has reached Ireland in less than two months. No where near long enough to devise a plausible explanation. [bigsad]
Fine looking women in your family too, by the way. [smilebigeye]

Given the freedom to imbibe that comes with taxi patronage, something undoubtedly in your mind, hardly warped I say!

(Psssst... truly warped would be a variation on the dinner party theme (you know the one, where all the car keys are placed in a box and the ladies draw one and go home with the owner. The variation being no partners need be involved...just us and our defenders. [bigwhistle] )

I believe that that's the law of Selective Gravitation.
Murphy's Law is about things not going well and Riley's Commentary is about Murphy being unreasonably optimistic.

Murphy means: One skilled in the ways of the Sea.
Murphy's law: If any thing can go wrong it will go wrong.
Hardly optimistic.

People have actually studied this stuff, apparently. One theory is it originated during rocket sled testing, but it is probably older than that.

There is also Sod's Law, which is more extreme. Everything will go wrong:
