hi there guys

just wanted to ask those that getting to know me on here now will know that we have not long brought a disco.........

well two days ago we got a secondhand arb roof rack for it, but since putting it on we ae now incountering serious body vibration in the disco on rough roads and bumps that we hit on the freeway.........we are assuming that the rigidity of the rack is making the shock of a bump travel through the body where as before you might hear the roof flex a bit.....

i just really wanted to know is this common with the disco's when you put a roof rack on to feel this or could it be a sign that something else is warn i.e the springs are to soft etc....

the other thing i wanted to ask as well in regards to is it normal or not
the gear box really clunks from 1st to 2nd when traveling at really slow speed (does not hold 1st for very long at all) is this also another trait of the automatic disco or not??

thanks for your help

With the rack try some rubber where it mounts in the gutter and tighten or loosen the rack to see if either works.

I have the manual so can't answer your second question, but i don't think they should clunk at all.

Well I haven't taken note of what model Disco you have, but a "short shift" from 1to 2 is normal for a Range Rover Classic or Disco 1 with a ZF 4HP22 transmission. Ie one with a kickdown cable , up to 95 on Range Rover.
The "clunk" is usually due to the unavoidable slop/clearences in the LT230 transfer case, and the diff ( both have gears which must have clearence). Sometimes can be made worse by a worn ball joint in the centre of the rear axle. But if its not too bad you can rest easy as its normal.
