Hi everyone.

I had a couple of new tyres fitted to the family car today.
Whilst I was there the tyre fitter asked me if I knew anything about Landrovers.

I said not much but I do know a few blokes who do.

His question was: He has a series3 with a tired 2.3l diesel motor
Are these motors expensive to do up?
He also has a 186 holden motor in good condition and wants to know
is it worth transplanting it into the Rover instead of the diesel?

What advise can you give to him

Thanks in advance
Davy

the answer depends on what he uses the rover for...

if uses it offroad a lot then the diesel is the best option, heaps of grunt down low, if he does heaps of highway miles the holden will be better as they dont mind revving, add an overdrive and you have a nice highway traveller that is more economical than the petrol landy.

i have just taken the holden engine out of mine and am fitting in a series 3 diesel as we speak.

The LR Diesel is not really expensive to overhaul if you have some basic mechanical knowledge and skills (much the same for the Holden, I suppose). I'd stick with the original, but I'm a Diesel dog anyway. They won't make you rig a race car, though, and they are very effective in clouding in the neighbourhood.
