Battery Charger for parking up the Defender for a while

Hi,

I'm thinking of parking up my Defender for a while and want to keep the battery topped up. I was going to disconnect the battery and leave it hooked up to a charger. Will one of these do;

Should do the job fine. Personally I'd fork out a bit more for a Ctek or similar quality charger if you can afford it.
A 10 amp output is way more than you'll need for battery maintenance. I've got a 5 amp Ctek and its plenty for a standard Defender battery.

I'm not convinced that have a battery charger hooked up 24/7, I did this with my camper trailer but reckon it decreased life of batteries

I stuck a small solar panel on the draw bar and reckons it worked out better going on/off charge.

No real science attached art from maybe the batteries staying cooler??

Buy a small electronic plug in timer for it and make it come on only for one hour a day.

More likely a combination of battery and charger quality and condition I'd guess if anything.
Proper multi stage chargers are designed to be permanently connected and once they reach a fully charged state just monitor and maintain. I think heat would be a non-issue in this case.

I bought a smallish trickle solar charger with leads of fleabay for around 25 bills recently. It keeps my spare battery nicely charged in case I need it.

Would this work on a 75AH Thumper Battery?

I have one of those too. It sits around sometimes for 6 months +

I normally check the voltage on the battery once a week.Its a varta,cant remember the model, but its a big one that I had in my Rangie and I changed it because it wouldnt start at the repairers(got rear ended). So bought new battery for it and it normally sits around 13.5 volts with trickle charger on it.

I use Ctek 6 stage trickle chargers for all my toys ( trailbikes, UTV's, 4wd ) and they work a treat. I leave them connected permanently when vehicle not in use . Always have a permanent connection to the battery terminal with the lead and plug located in a convenient position to connect and disconnect. Definitely worth the money - have already saved $ not having to replace batteries prematurely

I used the same Ctek on the Cooks Camry when we went away as I got fed up with replacing batteries that were completely flat every time we came home. Replaced more batteries on that car than anything else.
Now it's been sold the Ctek will be used on the Defender which I've removed from sale, while we're away.
Seems like a good bit of kit and nothing ever feels hot around the battery or Ctek itself.

I have an earlier version of the Projecta seven stage charger and it has been faultless.
Regular charging and then letting them sit is supposed to reduce sulphanation in the cells, I believe.
