A friend of mine bought a PUMA 90 recently and wants to build some sort of sleeping arrangement in there.
The rear seats are in and she wants to keep them, she's thinking of a platform that she can fold out and by tilting the front seats forwards, give her plenty of room. She's only 5'4" so length isn't so much of an issue, it's more about the ease of carrying the platform in the vehicle, folded up while in transit.
I think it's easily doable, but am keen to see if anyone has thought of or done this before and explore what sort of solutions people have come up with.
Cheers

Colin (Gromit) on this forum has the sort of setup you describe in a Series 1 86".

You could make something similar to thishttps://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2017/08/412.jpg

Here's the one John mentioned in my Series I. 1956 Series 1 with PTO welder (home made) (https://www.aulro.com/afvb/series-i-land-rover-enthusiasts-section/159944-1956-series-1-pto-welder-home-made-post1770051.html#post1770051)

I saw a good idea in a 110. A cargo rack that folds down over the folded up seats and forms a bed base with the false floor in the back.

That's sort of along the lines of what I'm thinking. Camp stretcher/ simple platform. Thanks mate.

It was easier in the Series 2 and 2a the capping on the tub and transom are at the same height as the top grab rail on the firewall so all we did was have 2 pieces of plywood one for the rear and another over the front seats.
Just another time that new things are not always better than old. 😉

Len Beadell had a similar set up in his shorty. If I recall there is a photo or two in his books. All very basic but it works.

...The 90" wheelbase!
I've stretched myself out over the boxes etc I have in the rear. Feet were draped over the center console, and head was against the back door.
Hammock might not have the length to get a good drape on the the sleeping area (inside, as least!)
As for the stretcher design, that pic is a hard top with the bulkhead. The wagon puma 90's have the cross bar, which may impact on such a set up.

This was a fellow called Herbert Zipkin's idea (in a 109, but it would work in a 90). Should work well, so long as not much hanky-panky is planned.

Not then length for a man giant such as yourself...which is really why you should upgrade to a 130 [biggrin]

Perhaps you could get some ideas from this... http://caranex.com/pdfs/brochure.pdf
Or you could use the idea of an extended sleeping bed as in small pop top campers 128075
