My Defender doesn't get used that much so I must admit I hadn't looked back to check when the belt was changed.
I remember reading 7years as about the time to change if it hasn't reached the km limit (70,000 ?).

Anyway, looks like I need to organise some locking tools and get a cambelt on order.
When mine was last done it had the major kit with replacement timing chest, injector pump bracket etc. so probably only needs the belt replaced.

Found the tutorial, thanks to Blknight and also to johntins for turning it into a .pdf ....especially now all the pictures have gone from the thread thanks to Photobucket !

Belt and idlers, you don't want to be going in there again.
I have the locking pins you can borrow.

Yeah, as the two rangie guys said, do idler/tensioner and do crank pulley too, and do the main seal and cover seal ..
I read that it's recommended to do the main seal while you have easy access, and didn't do it as it wasn't leaking.
Murphy came to play ... and of course it started leaking about a week later! [bighmmm]
Had to undo it all over again and waste more money on a new cover seal too.
Not to mention that the day started out sunny and warmer than we've had recently, so it was a reasonable time to do it.
... so about 1/2hr before I'd finished putting it all together it buckets down and I get drenched while breaking my back leaning over the front.

serves me right for not listening to the chaps that know best.

So lesson learned .. for a $2 part(and I had two of each of the two seals) .. do as the folks in the know tell 'ya too!
