Hi,

I washed the car yesterday at the car wash. I did give the engine a quick wash too...I mean quick.

All good yesterday.

TDV8 2008

Got in car today and have the following faults.

Body Control

B1C62-14 (2F) Battery saver relay output circuit - General electrical failure - circuit short to ground or open
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:26 at 225740 km )
Engine TDV8

U0102-00 (2F) Lost communication with transfer case control module
Parking Brake

U0101-87 (FB) Lost communication with transmission control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:26 at 225748 km )
Steering Angle

U0122-87 (2F) Lost communication with vehicle dynamics control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:30 at 225748 km )
Suspension

U0102-87 (2F) Lost communication with transfer case control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:30 at 225748 km )
Terrain Response

U0102-87 (2F) Lost communication with transfer case control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:27 at 225748 km )
Transmission

U0102-87 (2F) Lost communication with transfer case control module - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 18-08-2017 10:02:30 at 225748 km )

The Body control was there prior to this...something I am reading up on.

The other faults I cannot clear. I am guessing I have water in a connector somewhere???

Any ideas where to look?

I have pulled plugs apart around the battery. All are bone dry and show no signs of water ingress.

Need to fix asap as heading to QLD on Sunday...well hopefully!!

Thanks

Chilly

Could be water in the transfer case module which is not a sealed and a common culprit for engine bay water. The transfer case module is a HS canbus gateway that isolates the engine/gbox/abs side of the canbus from the more general various other modules on the HS canbus so if it fails then lots of other modules get comms errors. Note that the ecm will shut down the HS canbus if it detects a fault so waiting some time to allow for drying to see if the fault condition clears might be an option.

Thanks Graeme,

I have checked the plugs and they are bone dry. The area looks dry too. I have just pulled the TCM out ad there maybe an area which could be water damaged. I have cleaned it up and will see shortly.

Thanks again for your help!

Well Graeme,

You were spot on!

The area I have cleaned on the TCM has cured the faults!!

I have cleaned the TCM board with MAF sensor spray,( only thing I had at home), and then lacquered the board. I am really surprised there was water damaged due to the area seeming to be dry...guess I got that wrong.

Big thanks for your advise which made pull it apart, look and find the issue....would not of done otherwise.

Long term Ill probably buy a new one just to be safe.

Thanks again,

Chilly

Hi,

I hope the issues you are having can be cured by this.
The TCCM, Transfer Case Control Module, is behind the battery.

The battery needs to be removed. On the wall under the windowscreen will be seen two leads going into a black plastic cover.
The cover needs pulling forward.
Behind there is a silver control module.
Remove the wires. Three blocks on mine.
Remove the TCCM.
Check for water in the plug area of the TCCM. Mine was bone dry.
Now you have to pull the TCCM cover off.
Several tabs to gently open. They will break easily. So be careful.
Look for water damage. I used a magnify glass. It was obvious but hard to see by eye.
I would then use electrical cleaner, (I only had MAF cleaner at home).
You might have to do several times. DO NOT scratch / scrape it with anything.
Allow to dry.
Spray the board with electric board lacquer spray. Spray both sides. I gave mine a couple of coats.
Refit the cover and be very careful closing the tabs.
I sprayed lacquer around the closed surfaces and gaps. I did not have anything else to hand to seal it.
Good luck!

Brother,

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, It happened to me a few years ago when I was camped on a remote beach south of Broome in WA. Luckily for me I could still maintain low range and travelled nearly 2000 Ks towing a van to Wyatts at Geraldton. My Story and posts are still on the aulro website. OK, if you hosed behind your battery near the firewall, the chances of water streaming downwards and entering your ECU box is nearly 100 percent. Thats the ECU box (a small alloy rectangle thing) with all the electronic bits and pieces that control your transmission, height sensors and other important components. Depending on how much water got in or for how long you powered it up will depend on the damage done. In my case they just threw it away. Problem solved. Spend a little time trying to search my old thread. It has more technical info in it. If this is not the problem then I am sorry for sending you down the garden path. good luck.

Cheers

Balanda

PS just completed a 6 week trip to Darwin in my TDV8 RRS. Towed the van and bush camped all the way. Except for a minor incident near Toowoomba where I blew a radiator hose the vehicle just purred. I love it. I can recommend Don Radke of RAD Rover Towoomba on 0420591030
for help and advice. He is a Range Rover specialist, both L322 and L320.

How did you get on with this?

I'm going to my mechanic by the end of the week. I'll have it done then.
I've ordered this
Land Rover EGR Emulator (https://store.autocode.com.au/egr-emulator.html)
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks for your interest and help.

Where in the world are you?

I'm in a little town near Bairnsdale Vic. Things happen a bit slower in the country. [bigsmile1]
