View Full Version : Hole at top of Transfer Case

Hi all,

I'm in the process of installing an ExBox in my 2015 D90 and when I removed the inspection panel I came across a hole with what looks like blue-greenish grease at the top of the transfer case (see red circle in attached photo).

The schematic diagrams and documentation I've read suggest this is not the breather port, as it should be located lower down the case with a tube attached. My concern is with wading through water and any ingress. Therefore, is this normal and nothing to worry about? Or is there something that I can do if this is a problem?

Once I've bolted the ExBox down it will be a PITA to remove. Hence wanting to sort it out beforehand.

Thanks in advance!

At least you know the adaptor shaft is lubricated.

Just a machining/aligning hole. Nothing going on there. Should be sealant not grease. As long as you couldnt see into the transfer case leave it be.

P.s Marty not part of the adapter housing.

Thanks SSmith! That's good to know.

Marty, I was originally thinking along the same lines.

Thinking again, if it is grease it may be there as a tell tale that the adapter was greased during assembly, i vaguely remember reading something along those lines a little while ago - ergo Marty was right [emoji56]

The hole itself predates puma vehicles so as long as it is sealed.
