Oh WOW I like  If only because the wife really really prefers to travel in comfort (actually she prefers nice hotel rooms than camping :-( ), and this would help me to get her out with us more often
I dread to think how much they may cost though
Ah well - stevo68 in regards to your question, I gather from the website that they haven't been fully released yet. The sentence that screams to me that they are still being prototyped and built is:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>For a pre-release preview of HighRise, please contact Peter Webb on (03) 5428 4948[/b][/quote]
If that's the case I'd leave it for a year or so - give it time for the bugs to be ironed out before purchasing.... well, I *say* I'd leave it - which really is something you probably should do - however I doubt I'd have the willpower https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

It could also mean he might do you a deal to take one of the first ones and be his ginea pig https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

My point exactly Grizzly Adams, my partner is a little keener on smoother accommodation, whereas something like that ( which I was showing her last night) could mean I could keep warmer at night " if ya know what I mean" nudge nudge wink wink. Though the kiddies would have to be put a little ways a way https://www.aulro.com/afvb/. Didnt read that it was maybe a prototype, will keep looking though as eventually want to get a good offroad camper,

Ok, been delving a little further, the Transcontinental starts from $48800 and the Backpack model starts from $27800. Im generally unfamiliar with prices on these sorts of things, obviously $48k aint cheap, but how does that price against other similiar type models??

That is, shall we say, exhorbitant 8O
At least for the transcontinental... for price for the backpacker ain't too bad compared to a new <u>Tvan (http://www.mrt.com.au/Tvan.htm)</u>...
They tend to start around $23k+, just do a google search for tvan and you'll get lots of hits.
I think that's about the only one that comes close to the highrise apartments though.

It looks claustrophobic to me, which I think is also true of the T Van.

yeha but you guys do realise that the backpacker model is a traytop version https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Ever noticed that a small area under canvas isn't really claustrophobic, but the minute you make those walls and roof out of something more solid.. it feels terribly cramped :?:
DiscoMick

Yes, I have noticed exactly that.
I don't feel claustrophic in a tent, but in a solid walled space of the same size I feel the big urge to get out.
Thats why I like our camper with lots of canvas. We can do a long-term setup and have three rooms on our camper, so its about as spacious as the average Thai one-room apartment! 8O
I could probably swing a cat in our camper without it hitting the walls https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Any cat that got into our camper would certainly be swung - probably by the neck! Or booted! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Dont get me started on cats, I have to tolerate my partners one, though I wont let it inside and my german shepherd gives it a good run for its money, I just wish he'd catch up, just once  Only kidding folks  , Id always give it a head start 8O ,

Stevo
P.S. Got the brochures the other day for the transcontinental, would be interested to see what it was like inside......

I don't know about being claustrophobic. Have you tried one of these Teardrop Campers.
http://www.trikesaustralia.com/teardrop_camper.htm
They are like a coffin on wheels, but the windows and skylight make it very comfortable.
The guy hand builds these in his back yard. I'm sure he could knock something up for off-road use.

Definitely too claustrophobic for me. I'd rather have a swag and save the difference in cost.

Kimberly Kampers have bought the intelectual property rights to this van and are bulding a variation bazsed on their chassis. Looks good, but the price will be very steep!
