If the mythical new Defender isn't the real deal (if it ever materialises) this certainly is:

Yes, Ive driven one of the recently.. Im very tempted as there is no sight of the replacement defender Utes.. can pick them up on road with a tray for $120k..but so basic inside they make my 130 dual cab look like bloody luxury..

Yes, the cab-chassis has been here for a while. How did you find it to drive Summiitt?

But this is the new G Professional Wagon. Four coils. 3 diff locks, V6.

Compared to previous Defender prices the MB GP Wagon will be expensive, but if the next Defender is priced anything like Disco 5, the G will be a serious competitor.

2216kg tow cap??? Useless for touring duties if you are like us with a 3t van and wanting to carry gear and tools.

The G300 ute was sensational off road, impressive on road. Its bigger than a 130 defender and massive tray space and payload which are in my top 3 requirements.
My 130 is a nicer vehicle to drive, G300 was basic to say the least.. like really really basic, but it has auto, triple diff locks and payload..big ticket items

Thanks Summiitt, sounds like the tray back is hardcore. The G Professional Wagon has just been released, with four coils, so not as harsh. Tow ratings are up for Aus too JC. In fact apparently the Australian market is the only civilian market the G Professional has been released in. Expensive at $110K but not much competition in the market, hence the Australian release. ...I've posted more info in the G Wagon thread in Non LR Euro section.

Hmmm. Certainly won't see much change from a vdj79 gxl with lockers etc etc and no soul to boot... the G looks quite tempting...

The biggest problem with the cruisers is the lack of payload, and the brakes are really really crap, they will keep selling them because there isn't much in the way of options in the heavy duty ute market, Id love an F350, but not with leather and carpets, they are just not practical as a work ute.. I just hope the G professionals price drops to around $100-110k.. Im not hopeful that the new defender will fill this market either?

Good news for you JC as it looks like the newly released tow weights for the Oz versions show that braked towing has gone up to over 3 tons. Still only has a 120kg towball weight though.

Think I'll have to stickw with the vogue a nd the county... need 250kg ball and would prefer 3500kg towing....

I'm surprised it hasn't the higher tow ball rating looking at the wheelbase and low overhang. If a dmax and colorado can be rated at 350kg then why cant the merc???

Yep, would definitely have to agree with you there. The braked towing and towball weight is actually less than my D1. Mind you it would do it easier than a D1, but certainly not up to what you require.
