Always sad to see an old mate go.
I dread the day our best mate goes, only having 3 legs she won't live as long https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Hey Pedro chin up,
If we lived on a property then we would have got a kelpie, instead we went for second choice a JRT
Got her just after Xmas and she is now 16 weeks old and had her first offroad trip a week after we got her, now she is as much a part of the landy as the green oval badge.
Had her over at Straddie on the weekend and we all had a ball.

Geez, talking about almost getting the waterworks going here at my desk  , obviously a lot of good heart around these traps, which is great to see. Sad news mate, moreso that you only added a pic in a previous thread when I was talking about having to give my faithful mate the snip snip. I had to have a bitch put down many years ago, still have her pic in the house. Tough explaining to the kiddies when they were older that she ummmm hadnt gone to the farm as they wanted to catch up https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ . Ill have a cold one in memory,
Regards

been a dog person all my life, (see avitar) parents got my first, 6 months before i was born and he lived to 18 and a half, i still miss him, but since old Blackie died, Len, Renny,Lou and my current 3 Abbey, Bo and Theo have filled the void.
best thing to do is jump straight back on the horse and get another puppy or better still rescue a death-row dog from the pound, the life you save may be your own.
the sorrow you feel when they go is a small price to pay for the years of unconditional love they give you.

Call it epitah or poem, we've composed it on our own,
It's about a dog called Rusty, and may the memory of him, never grow dim.
It was one Sunday afternoon, that we saw him in the gloom,
lying by the roadside in a rut.
Where he crawled to lick his wounds, he'd recieved that afternoon,
when ran over, by car or truck.
Now the kids they called him Rusty, he was so old and brown and dusty,
and he answered to that name tho it was his own.
As we continued along the track, we happened to glance back, that Rusty dog was following us right home.
So we took him and we fed him, and in fact we even bed him, in the house that we call home upon the hill.
And if it hadnt been for more bad luck, to be hit by another truck, that Rusty dog would be there with us still.
He was useless among cattle, heeded neither whistle, whip nor whim.
But let him spy a snake, then he made no mistake, sprang to kill with vigour and with vim.
There was Margaret, there was Susan and even little Lynn,
they loved that great big Rusty dog, made a favourite out of him.
There was Colin, there was Jacky, they miss him most of all,
He never failed to heed their voice, or answer to their call.
Now the old boy is gone, and life must go on,
Time heals all wounds or so the teachers say,
And though things may seem so black, as I continue on lifes track,
I know I'll meet old Rusty boy again someday.

Good point - they can never be replaced but most of my immediate family have pound puppies now and it is the best thing we have ever done. They all come with quirks, but love you back extra for rescuing them.

Thank you EVERYONE.
Grief is a very lonesome thing,,
and no matter who you lose everyone else expects it to finish quicker than it does,,
We are still working through it.
Di keeps saying "we'll be ok"
and then she bawled her eyes out when we woke up this morning--
PS,
thanks crump,, I hadnt cried for 8 hours,,
then I did.
maybe its all to the good,,
he was[still is!] worth a bit of grief

They all are mate. My Grandfather wrote that for a dog he loved long before I was born, used to recite it to me as a kid, always remembered it, thought it might help, griefs grief, child, wife, partner or dog, its all loss.

Nothing we (my wife and I) can say can match the words that have been said before me.
Suffice to say we feel your loss and you have our condolences
Anyone who has had a pet knows the grief of loss, especially so when it's a pet as close to the family as a dog.
As stated earlier best thing is to dive right in and get another puppy - though after a suitable grieving period... the love of your new puppy will help you get over the loss of your old one.
Condolences mate.

https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ Gone ,but never forgotten
our canine companions are sorely missed,
much loved for their wagging tails ,not tongues,
their companionship is oft overlooked and under rated,
their loyalty is undeniable,

Sorry to hear about your pooch Pedro...
It's funny how close we grow to them....
I had to put have mine put down last year ( his whole rear end packed up - poor old bugger couldn't walk) - it was the hardest thing I've done in many years...
... My kids who are 8 and 9... miss him so much.. and it was the first time either of them has seen me cry..... I sat on the back deck with him and balled my eyes out like a little kid..cause I knew what I would have to do when I took him to the vet..
They are a special part of your family... I still sometimes miss my previous dog...... she left me 12 years ago.... so it will take time.
Just hang in there mate.. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
