Im thinking about buying a LR 101 FC for a bit of a project. Has anyone here had any experience with these? Are there enough of them in Australia to keep them reasonably affordable? (as in <$25,000)

The army had 50 odd of them, so between imports and existing vehicles there should be around, but as you noted, they cost.
Great if you can get one, and there are only so many unique parts. If you want a project, a 101 would be great, go for it https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Also remember that the 101 fc is different to the civilian FC models.

British auto parts at Bankstown/Punchbowl have one sitting in their yard - ideal project, not too tattly. I think they may want to get rid of it.
