I was at our local supermarket deli the other day and there was pickled octopus at $79 a kilo, I though gee bait has gone up in price, it's the price of Crayfish!

I know that the price of occy has gone up over the last few years but $79 a kilo is pretty steep.

Get a metre of poly drainage pipe. Two bits of wire in holes close to one end to hold a very well secured fish head or squid. Chicken wire and a brick for weight covering that end and rope secured at the other end. Toss it near some rocks when your fishing and you might get a much cheaper Ocy. I have had a cray or two as a bonus by catch.[biggrin]

Even easier if you like getting wet like I do. I have seen Venison for $80 per KG [bighmmm] Now that shocked me

I spent many years as a deckhand on cray boats and the job itself IS tough.
However financially the owners of the cray licences and many of the deckhands have been making money hand over fist for decades and if many of them didn't waste their money on drugs, booze, gambling and womanising None of them would find it Financially "Tough".
With the quota system now in place in WA the average beach price has skyrocketed and if any crayfisherman tells you he/she is doing it tough is talking through their Bum [bigwhistle]
