A question on spray painting an aluminium canopy. This is the canopy:

I got some proper automotive paint from a crash repair shop in 'Chawton White' (which I used to spray some primed steel rims - worked very nicely) called Dupont Lucite Acrylic Laquer.

Now I want to tackle a bigger job. What would I have to prepare/prime the aluminium with before I start spraying the white?

Is Acrylic Laquer the right stuff to use? Is this the same as the original Land Rover paintwork?

Any idea of how much it might cost to get a professional respray? (just the canopy - not the body)

Thanks
David

You need to start with an etch primer, and once that is on it is the same as spraying anything else. There are a variety of etch primers available, and I used one in a pressure pack - you don't use much, and I was repainting an already painted vehicle, so only had to do the bits where the paint rubbed through.
I suggest you find a paint supplier that supplies the trade, and ask for advice - that is what I did!

If you can get the search to work, try that,I never seem to have much luck with it.Try"Painting Landrovers"
