Hey guys recently my TD5 Defender started to use excessive fuel.
It always used to to around 8kpl but is now around 5-6kpl [bawl]
I've cleaned out the MAF and Manifold Pressure sensor but hasn't achieved a lot. It's had a new fuel and air cleaner not that long ago and hasn't seen much dust since then, also doesn't seem to be blowing any noticeable smoke.
The fuel pump has been noisy since I bought the thing so I'm thinking it may be that it's finally given out. Is there any way to test it is making fuel pressure and what pressure to expect?
Any other ideas what it could be would be great also [thumbsupbig]

Have you a Nanocom to check correct readings from MAF & MAP??
I had same issue with my disco and changed both MAF & MAP after some suspect readings

No been trying to find a good reader to do other vehicles also but haven't had a lot of luck.
Bit the bullet this morning and got myself a Nanocom. Hopefully it proves to be a good investment over the years haha.
Will let you guys know how I get on when it gets here.

Is it harder to get started at the moment?
Just check if the fuel pressure regulator is wet with fuel.
Back of the engine on the intake side possibly dripping fuel onto the starter.

Nope starts like a dream.
I've just checked and there isn't any noticeable signs of leakage around the regulator nor on the starter.

So the nanocom came in. I cleared the faults and ran it up to temp.
MAF is reading around 55-60 at idle and 175 at 2000rpm no load.
Is that right?

Have you checked the oil level in the sump?
It could be that the injector seals ('O' rings & copper washers) are shot & bypassing fuel into the sump.

Checked the oil level and it hasn't seen an increase.
I did another test based off information I found trawling the internet and the MAF will pull just over 600gph which is about what I think I should be expecting and same for the idle at 55-60gph.
MAP sensor is reading fulll boost at 1.08bar which should be around 15PSI which I also think is correct.
