Dorian

Having read a lot of comments over the past few years, about surface rust on the rear member I decided to check mine and alas there it was.[bawl][bawl]

Thinking it was across the entire back member, I thought I'd take all of the stuff off the back of the Dorian and clean up the whole show. Off came the bumperettes, tyre carrier, rear step and reversing camera. I also took out the front runner water tank and dropped the tow bar.

I took this photo so I know where to put stuff back, but having read that folks have to remove the rear step it they put a tyre carrier on, I thought I'd show my solution.

Once everything was off, cleaned all of the grease off, pressure washed it and wet sanded it with 600 W/D and phosphoric acid. Found all of those cuts in my hands.

This last photo is probably the reason I have posted this. Notice the original paint (lets go with "paint" for the moment) has only gone where it's been exposed to the sun. The bits that were under the various plates are fine. It seems that the " Paint" isn't UV stable. :bat:
So obviously don't take it out in the sun.[biggrin]
I've etch primed it and painted it Matte black. Drying out tonight, I'll swing the tow bar back up tomorrow morning to go to work and put the other bits back on during the week. No photo of the finished paint as my skills with a spray can are appalling .
Cheers Glen.
