My ABS TC lights have been intermittently staying on. My mechanic has told me that it will cost about $6000 to replace. I cant believe it! Love my defender but some pills are too big to swallow...

No need for a big bill like that I have no connection to these people but Ian Jobson can fix the modulator he did one for me, mine was a serious mess I think it cost $800 from memory it will likely cost less than this

If its just shuttle valves you can do them yourself for not much I guess it depends if you are confident working on brakes
the modulator is a PITA to get out in a Defender (http://www.jobsonelectronics.com/)

Hey thanks djam. I will get onto it asap. When it comes to brakes id prefer to leave it to the pro's.
Thanks again

Similar issue..... Intermittent ABS & TC lights eventually turned into permanently ON. Turned out it was just the rear sensors. My mechanic said they could only get the sensor harness at apprx $600. Instead they recommended me sourcing it from the UK to save some coin (good on em!). With shipping, it was just over 1/3 of that price. A second opinion from another mechanic might be worthwhile.

If I ASSUME you own a TD5 110....
All the info you'll ever need is in The Good Oil and The D2 Forum,,

I have not seen fitting a new switch pack and or doing harness mod work on a Defender TD5
I've only ever had 2 TD5 Defenders where this fault has come up, both times ended up replacing the abs assembly.

Be very careful with the option B mod on a Defender if the wires short on the mount the front brakes will lock up on dirt tracks don't ask how i know[tonguewink]

I dont actually know what AULRO have called the particular fix or mod, my point was over 30 years or so of working on Land Rovers I've only had 2 Defender TD5 models come to me with the oh so common Disco 2 fault.
I believe I'm always very careful when working on customers vehicles regardless of the repair.
AND completely crazy enough..... today.... Defender TD5 with a electrical shuttle switch fault.....
I've not fixed it, merely cleared the fault code and stuck some black tape over the abs light [tonguewink][tonguewink][tonguewink][tonguewink]
