I am in the process of selling my immaculate P38a Rangie and am looking for a Defender TD5 - I cam across this one on carsales.com.au and just interested to know if anyone can throw some light on the colour scheme - 2nd owner reckons it's original, but I have suspicions that it's a breaker's lid on a rolled body or something.

http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!c...sh_id=234104878 (http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsales/!cs_content.member_private_vehicle'vehicle_id=2813 858&current_rec=2&total_rec=2&sort_type=&price_min=7500&price_max=20000&make_id=18&model_id=238&state_id=2&search_distance=25&alert_id=45639&hash_id=234104878)

Doesn't really matter to me, simply would explain price.

Hope everything is good with everyone.

Never see none with a paint job like that.

Have seen the roof white while the rest wasd a differant color, so it might just be one of those that someone used extra paint on and extended it further down.

One of our members in here will probally be able to give you a better answer I am sure.

Well it sure stands out, however as to it's originality, i've no idea.

However I've seen more than a couple for sale with a similar scheme. Maybe they were from a comany fleet?

looks like it was a white one (as soooo many are) and then they painted the bottom half???

The older extremes, which this is one, did have a white roof and coloured body which LR have now gone back to in 2005+ extremes.

Definitely not original.
The '00MY Defender was available in Alveston Red which the lower colour appears to be.
The UK cars have a white roof, the South African ones have a body colour roof.

The car also seems to have been re-registered a few years ago by the rego #. It doesn't appear on LRs records.

I'd be wary of this one.

Valuable knowledge, thanks gents.

Am interested as it seems a low price, but keen to find out more of the history - could surely be something as simple a hail damage write off - or something much worse. Not sure I will get it out of the owner - is there any resource you know of where I could search the chassis number etc?

Again - not to bothered as I would get a proper check done on it structurally, just don't want to get to that stage unprepared

I've never seen one like that either. 8O

Check it out very carefully. The price looks good...especially considering the k's which are low. Redbook suggests 20 - 23.5. Maybe there is something wrong, or maybe they need a quick sale. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

<span style="color:blue">i would say it was a white car and had the bottom painted to tidy up/mask the
offroad damage to sell it easier.....

as soon as you get close enough to open the doors you will be able to tell the original colour.....
if it was maroon in the first....it may have rolled over and had a new top fitted.....
the roof racks look new....and those racks they fit from the factory rust in about six weeks.....</span>

Here's a link for a Land Rover VIN calculator. It will not help with the colour but handy to find the origins / age of a vehicle, especialy to validate a Defender 90's chassis as some would use cut down Rangie chassis.

If it came from the factory like that, it will have two paint stickers - one for each colour. At least others I've seen, have.

They did come out in both the red and the white but not together like that as far as I know. Damn cheap for a 2000 model though. Have a good look and find out why so cheap.

I've never seen one in that colour scheme. But it doesn't look to bad and great for the price

Mate if all Ok I would snap it up at that price. Regardless of what Redbook states, I'll be buggered if you can find a good Extreme at that price. I know, I just brought one after 4 months of searching.

Best way it to pay and have it have it inspected. You have to know what needs repair in the near future, and get the body inspected.

I payed closer to $30k for mine (2001 Extreme with 90k on the clock). Sounds high but the report could not find one thing wrong, and with a heap of accessories I was prepared to pay for a vehicle in near new nick.

Also I prefer a white roof, rather than the 2002 on model. With good window tint and a white roof I was surprised how cool it keeps.

If it checks out buy it, you won't be disapointed. I wish I'd owned one sooner.

So it looks like a go - still need to loose my P38a to pay for it though.

Sidetrack question, but will the 110 fit underneath a 2m height restriction in a car park?

dages

NO, don't even go near it.

As Dages says:

http://www.aulro.com/modules.php?name=Foru...hlight=broadway (http://www.aulro.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=8856&highlight=broadway)

and

at 2.0 m you are working at the margins of safety.

Defenders might be good in a jungle but the concrete one's bite

My 05 model 110 will fit in a carpark with a clearance of 2.05m. However, the tank has to be full of fuel 8O 8O 8O

My '85 120" would fit under a 1.95m carpark.

I don't even try to park the 130 unless I've got 2.4. I can go a bit lower than that, but not by much.

Cheers

OMG!!!

2.4?????

not a lot of options at 2.4.

Mine needs 2.1 clearance and most of the 'bigger' carparks only offer 1.9 or at best 2.0. Tis a pain in the arse, and also the reason we got a rangie rather than a Disco, too.

Of course if I bought a Nissan 8O it wouldn't be a problem....

until I put in the lift kit required to match a standard Defender and then it wouldn;t fit either. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Car park designers take note :!:

I think it's actually 2.2, it has a very high bar thing at the front of the tray. I was dead surprised since the 120" could fit just about anywhere. In Broadway I could just fit my hand - widthways - in between the roof and the lowest point of the carpark. Hairy scary. Great to see the looks of people walking past when I went tearing through the carpark.

Fortunately the local shopping centre has the loading dock at the main entry so as long as I stay on the top underground level it's no worries.

Camel_landy had more problems, with all the gear on I think he said his was 2.6m.

Cheers

It looks like the rivets behind the rear doors are the red colour which to me would indicate that the lower portion has been painted. On all new Defenders the rivets are raw aluminum.

My Fender in standard ride height is about 2.0 metres (may be 1.95) and with the roof bars on will fit fairly easily under 2.3 bar by about 10-15mm. The Rangie came close to a 2.3 with the roof rack. Most of the ones I have been into in WA are 2.3-2.4 so not a huge issue unless I lift the Fender. There are always other options even in the cities. Maybe have a chat to the car park attendant as sometimes they have bays near the entrance/exit for high vehicles.
