TPMS question

Hi guys,
the manual says that the TPMS on my MY17 DS Lux SE "constantly monitors the tyre pressure in each wheel, including the full size spare".
The display in my car only shows the pressure in the four fitted tires. The dealer says "too bad, manual is wrong, spare wheel is not connected".
This seems a little odd to me. Is this another instance of JLRA deciding that certain features are beyond the needs of the Colonial market?
Does anyone know any more or any better?

I do know that in the USA , when legislation was bought in after several Explorers crashed, the fix by Ford was that the ABS compared the rotation rate of the four tyres and if an anomaly arose sounded a "tyre low" alarm.
This is the usual way of doing it AFAIK and I would be surprised if Land Rover did it differently seeing many car makers buy their electronics from the same sources.
Has anyone seen tyre pressure sensors inside any tyres?

There are TPMS's that use an added valve, core removed on each rim that then syncs with a head unit, and others that just sit on top of existing valves like valve caps. Both are aftermarket.

There are likely cars released with either of those techs, likely the added valve type due to accuracy and not having to get customers who may not have a clue to remove things that they then break.

The spare should have a sensor in it as well, unless you have a seven seater with the skinny steel spare, which won't have TPMS.

As far as I know... I think the manual is not entirely wrong, but is misleading due to being poorly written or written by somebody who doesn’t understand.

If you have the factory TPMS option, then the full size wheels (including the spare if you don’t have a skinny) have pressure sensors built in to them. There is an antenna wired up to the suspension at each corner of the car which can read the sensor data for the wheel that’s fitted there.

So I think you have five sensors in five wheels but only four wheels can be read at any given time.

Agree its most likely just poorly chosen words in the manual

There really would be no point to monitoring the pressure in a spare when it just is sitting in the boot.

What if the valve happens for fail in the spare.....unlikely but it could happen and when you have a flat you're buggered.

I saying that I don't monitor any of my six tyre pressures.
