How does the ZF box shift, through the ECU? Could a ZF box be used behind a carb engine?

Which ZF gearbox?
A 4HP22 as fitted to a 3.5 is mechanical and controlled by a kickdown cable.
Ditto 4HP24 fitted to injection 3.9 in RRC.
However a 4HP24EH as fitted to a 38A or D2 is controlled by a computer.
I understand that kickdown cable assemblies to connect to the manifold for 3.9 and earlier 3.5 are like hens teeth . I don't know whether the kickdown assembly on a 727 carby engine has the same throw but they are like hens teeth also only more so.
I think I spent more time developing a kickdown linkage on my 3.9 when I fitted a Thor manifold than any other facet of the conversion.
You may find that the quickest method is to get an electronic 4HP24EH and run it with a stand alone electronic controller.

When I changed to a holley carb on my 85rrc with tf727 I had to adapt the kickdown cable and brackets, wasn't too hard to do.
