HI, I need to clean cylinders, so I need to rotate the engine from the sync mark. How does the realignment work? Couldn't find on manual and seems no one knows...

Thanks!

Searching might help...found this on google.....lots more results came up....

Land Rover Workshop Manuals > TD5 Defender > ENGINE > TIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS > Page 263 (http://workshop-manuals.com/landrover/defendertd5/engine/timing_chain_and_sprockets/page_263/)

Good luck!

Keep tension on the chain with you're free hand when turning the crank!
Would hate to think if the chain fell..

Once you've finished cleaning the bores get cylinder 1 piston to TDC. I usually use a dial gauge and align the gauge tip just touching the piston face. Turn the crank very slowly clockwise and watch the gauge. The gauge needle will only go so far before it changes direction (this point where it changes direction is where the piston is going down). The point where the needle moves its furthest before moving backwards on the gauge is TDC.

Keep her there and ensure the camshaft is aligned ensuring locking pin fits in place (can use backend of a drill bit).

Place on headgasket and cylinder head and you're on you're way for reassembly!
