Anybody here into competitive wood chopping

Hi,
Anyone here competes/helps organise competitive wood chopping events in NSW/Queensland? I am trying to find out what type of trees are used in competitive wood chopping and were they are sourced from.

I go to watch many a woodchop at country shows and as far as I know it is just local timber supplied or donated . The more important thing is the diameter of the log.

Must be a website out there with all the rules and regs.

Someone should come forth soon with the info.

I'm told woodchopping raises your testosterone levels.

The story may be a myth, but when I was a child I heard that some American woodchoppers who had just finished a competiton in Australia asked what the timber used in Australian woodchops was.
When they were told it was Ironbark, the Americans commented that ironbark was a good name for it. :)
Apparently they found it a lot harder than the wood used in the USA.

Customer at work is into it, travels overseas at times to compete. I know he supplies logs for chops at different places (he also owns a timber mill).

Remember his saying the diameter and consistancy of the logs was the more important part.

AFAIK the timber used to be sourced locally, the only stipulation was same timber used in each comp. Axemen used to draw lots for each block. Have seen comps years ago where the standing might be ironbark, the underhand spotted gum, and the aerial stringybark. As long as all competitors are cutting the same timber and size, all good.
Most aussies don't like pine since you need a completely different axe profile.

After our local show wood chop the local scouts get the timber & sell it for fire wood as a fund raiser.
