Great race, as usual I watched it, and I enjoyed it.
Some very hard hits, showing the remarkable strength of the cars, and also that the safety barriers are doing their job. I wasn't wrapped in a one hour delay, & a shortened race, but the main thing is that despite the serious nature of several crashes, no one was seriously injured.
However, the stand out feature of the day for me was the driving of Richie Stanaway,....Pro Drive say they have a "co-driver contract" with him for the enduros next year, with a "no out" clause, so it will be interesting to where He ends up.

Yep. V8 supercars have been largely irrelevant since before it's inception.
How much relevance do they have with the cars the manufacturers sell? Badge, yes. Motor, maybe? Everything else, none.

The '70s and '80s, they were the best time for touring car racing. Who can forget the Chickadee Chicken Celica driven by Peter (Wilo) Williamson.

The dualcabs will be good, and for those who want relevance to what can be driven on the street, dualcabs being the most popular vehicle at the moment, there will be some relevance here, although of course there are many who wouldn't be happy no matter what a new formula was.
I was watching a motorsport telecast a while ago, and a race came up fo small 2L utes,...very small, very slow, and I was just about to switch off the telly, but nope, I watched it,...and it was great,.....sure, they were probably quite (well, VERY slow actually!) slow, but they were sliding, banging, locking up etc etc, and as they were all doing the same speed, ya don't notice the "slowness", it, a bit like the old HQs!
So, I reckon the superutes or whatever they're gonna be called will be good, several manufacturers, including Holden, have already got behind the new series, and seeing a bunch of them going through the dipper at Bathurst will be good.
Oh, and dare I say it, "shock & horror", there's a bit of talk about for Mustang to be involved in Supercars, and with a further rumor that HSV will do a deal with GM that will enable them too produce a RHD Camaro at a reasonable price, there's the prospect of Mustang V Camaro!!.....Of course, I'm drawing a fairly long bow here, but ya never know, because there's a lot of fans that'd like to see this happen,....V8 engines of course!

Yes. It was exciting when they ran different classes. I had friends who campaigned Suzuki Swifts. Won their class about every year they entered I think.

Ditto Homestar, there was a time when I couldn't wait for the V8 racing but it has become irrelevant now.

So, what category should be the main attraction?

I will plump for < 3,600cc engines, that leaves us with the majority of manufacturers being able to compete with only safety modifications to their homologated Australian sold vehicles. Bring back, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday" and make it relevant again.

Motor racing improves vehicles for you and me so the manufacturers should be able to write off the costs as product development.

At least, thet's what I thunk!!!!

Check it out on the web,..lots of classes there for you guys, but I'm sorry, that will never, ever, replace supercars.
Ya've only gotta listen to the newest driver sensation, Richie Stanaway, to know what overseas drivers think of our series,...they all LOVE it, 'çause there's nothing like it anywhere else,....big powerful 700HP saloons racing on narrow rubber,....SVG races all over the world, he meets drivers all the time,....who love it! Lots of the engineers are from Europe, some of ém have worked in F1,..a little bit more hi-tec than "taxis"I think. One of my good friends is involved, He was bought out from the U.K., for his engineering expertise,..He thinks the technology here is right up with anything in Europe.
I've heard Roger Penske (and what a legend he is) talk many times about the complexity, technology, engineering etc in Supercars, which He says, is on a level with anything He's seen.
And as I've said before, because I've got foxtel, I can get right into it. Pit interviews with engineers etc, I find intriguing,...Aero, Roll centres, shocker methodology, tyre technology, all sorts of engineering stuff that never existed in the "öld days". And I did used to watch the Monaros, Toranas, GT Falcons etc,..and yes the racing was good, but there's a lot more to running a supercar. In the"öld days", "privateers" could run couldn't they, but that was then, now is now,...it's a different world.
And what about the "safety" of these cars,..I just couldn't believe that Todd Hazlewood was totally unscathed in one of the hardest his I've seen,....He would've probably been killed without the technology built into these cars,....not bad for a taxi!
Had 3 days of it or Sandown, not really into Skaife, but Russell is really good, as are most of the other commentators...Some of you might even have seen Rihanna (Little blond lady)..she had a bit of a giggle talking about the "Preston Erection" Team!.
Of course, this is all IMHO!

Used to love going to Pukekohe with Dad and the Uncles to watch the 24 hour production races. Everything straight off the showroom floor, standard tyres (only allowed radials if they were standard for the model). As I recall, the driver and co-driver had to do the tyre changes, too!

The 80`s was a down turn in all the manufacturer`s with standard running gear as those crappy Holden diff`s and gear bags could not go the distance let alone get off the start line with out imploding [bighmmm]

The A9X is a special car, I used to own one myself, much too expensive for me now though.
I don't buy the magazine you speak of, but I do get Unique Cars, and one of the main people in that publication is a man I know, Phil Walker, and He loves his cars,..He's had a few Brocks, a Shelby 350 Mustang, and He's just bought a MAGNIFICENT A9X hatchback replica which is featured in the magazine,...yep, I drooled!
