129729129730As I am getting a canopy and drawers for the ute, I didn't fancy the hassle of the spare in the back...
so I threw some $ at Murray @ rijidij [biggrin]
I liked the only swing away carrier on my previous ute, and this is an even better one !
I suppose I'd better repaint the rear cross-member and tow bar before I fit it, to make it look OK....
This is what will arrive by courier in due course....

I purchased a Long Range Automotive 134 litre fuel tank at the recent 4x4 show in Melbourne. I have had them before on my other 4x4's (not Land Rover) and have always been happy with the result. Not only did I get a show discount but I won a raffle for free installation which I did not know I had entered! Apparently by purchasing at the show I was automatically put in the draw. Got to be happy with that. Tank goes in next Thursday.
I don't think I need too many more items now. Maybe an Ashcroft centre diff and another Harrop locker in the front. I'm not hard core but my Defender only has the Rover front diff so it eventually has to go. Having said that, it is a Defender so you never really stop fiddling do you?

Fortunately, no. The Exmoor seats have an engineering certificate that comes with it. It is discussed on their website in quite some detail. The seats I ordered are the premium high back second row seats. These are their recommended replacement if you are wanting to upgrade from the the 60/40 bench.

Do these seats use the original mounting points?
Either way in qld you would still need the to go through the approval process and have a blue plate fitted and registration details changed

Had a Long Ranger tank fitted (120ltr). ARB did it as I didnt have the time. Only problem was I then had to change the towbar to a 130" as the old one fouled on the tank. One thing I dont like is it hangs low and the sway bar even lower on the spacer blocks they fitted. I might pull the sway bar and brackets off and see if I notice any difference. Pulled the back seats out, on "A temporary basis" and now making a storage system for all the camping gear for trips without the camper. Looking a a water bladder that fits on the floor I can cover up, so I can load gear on top of it. Found one which should fit, just waiting for a reply from seller.

Not sure I'd do this on the later models, but I ended up just using some Bunning's Carpet Squares to carpet the areas of the drivers & passengers side areas along with the rear passenger's area + also carpeted the area behind the fuse panel. Not the best solution or probably the prettiest, but for me it will do the job as its easy to remove as well.... Worked well in decreasing the in-cabin noise as well

I was thinking of using bunnings stuff but I did a molded set of carpets in a Falcon ute here at work to tart it up a bit for its 10th birthday and it looks the schizzle!!.
So I thought I might try it with the Fender, but they don't do molded sets so they are sending the carpet and some insulation. I don't know yet if I can heat the back of it with a heat gun to mold it or not, forgot to ask. Stay tuned.

Delivered and Installed! I ordered a set of second row seats from Exmoor trim in the U.K.
Have wanted to do the fridge-down-the-middle for a while, giving people on each side plenty of space.130726 The seats are designed to fit three across if you want three individual seats. They don't use the original mounting points, but it was an easy install, and the new mounting points don't stand out as looking too after market. The old mounting points just look like the body to chassis connection point, which some of them are!

How easy was it to get certification for the seats in NSW? VSI 06 section 40/41 says that if the replacement seats are not offered by the manufacturer and do not use the original mounting points then they require certification which would be from a NSW approved signatory and not the UK certificate as per the Exmoor Trim website. The U.K. VCA certificate would help with getting it engineered but I don't think it is the same as having local auto engineers sign off on the modification. Also a permanent change to seating has been made so that requires a modification plate. Am I wrong on these points? I know you can get away with removing seats as you can put them back again. I have removed my LHS second row seat and have a fridge fitted there but I can reverse the change in 30 minutes and the "C" pillar seat belt remains in place.

I am sure you are correct and I too would be happy that the product is good quality, safe and fit for purpose. Yes, I have done some reading on vehicle modifications as I was looking at fitting a Safety Devices L255 internal roll cage to my Defender. Cages are common in the U.K. but looking at all our modification regulations, what might be fine in the U.K. requires engineering certification here. I doubt the L255 would be legal here but if someone had information to the contrary I would be a happy man.
Unfortunately the bottom line is that a large majority of the modifications undertaken and promoted in the U.K. would not be legal here such as certain negative offset wheels, wheel spacers, some cages, steering wheel replacement (non padded centres), non certified wheels, some chassis plating, suspension mount modifications etc. Some might be legal eventually but would require extra engineering certification. I don't like it any more than anyone else but they are just the facts unfortunately. It is worth checking the various registration authorities regarding light vehicle modification before big money is spent just in case.
Luckily there are so many variations of Defender that most authorities would not have a clue what is original or not.[smilebigeye]

Been fitting a few things to my 300Tdi 110 project vehicle. Terrifirma heavy duty hubs on the front ( heavy duty hubs/axels for the rear arrive next month). A 10,000 lbs winch installed in the ARB bar but not wired up yet. LED replacement indicators/side and brake light kit from Bearmach (Wipac). The indicator and side lights didnt work at first and after some research via the Land Rover workshop videos I cut and reversed all the cables as the are apparently polarity sensitive. So red/black now. All working well except I need to install the new relay to slow the flash rate down from ballistic strobe mode. Took the internal fuse panel off to access the old relay and found a scary mess. Need to investigate this further and try and understand what the PO has done. Also replaced the lower rear suspension bushes. Was unable to budge the old bushes with my 12 ton press, so pressed out the middle then cut with a hack saw and finally used a cold chisel to get it out. Cleaned up with a flap wheel. A bit of grease and the new bushes went in a breeze. Upper bushes and the A ball joint next....

Thanks Vlad, that is 95% of what I got. The ‘rails’ I received were straight, no 45 degree bit at the front. My concern is the instructions, for what they are worth seem to suggest (to me anyway) that I need to drill out most/all of the existing rivets and replace with those supplied in the kit but they look exactly the same. Is there any point in this? I assume this is to strengthen the bonnet but do not understand the need to replace existing ones, additional makes sense but I seemed to already have rivets everywhere they suggest. This vehicle has previously had bonnet mounted kit but a different type So appears to have already got all the rivets. I have heard stories of poorly fitted kits destroying bonnet and want ensure this does not occur.

travelrover - there were two different bonnets for the Defnde4rs - one 'normal' and one strengthened to suit the spare wheel mount. Perhaps the kit is designed to strengthen the former kind, and you have one of the latter.
There would be no point in removing rivets and replacing them with other rivets, if that's all that's happening....

Have purchased a mini mud pod for my 300Tdi project Defender and VDO EGT & Pyrometer to mount in it. I know there have been recent threads here as to where best to locate the sensors so I need to track those down. Am also looking for a round Defender (analog) clock to mount in the middle as the PO has removed this. Anyone got one sitting in their shed? Waiting for an RDX ‘command console’ to arrive from the UK also. This will allow me to tidy up the mess the PO has created and mount some useful switches and hopefully a Defender radio (also looking for one of these if there is one with PIN in your shed, pre 2002). Plan to have a Mulga exbox next payday and will spend Christmas tidying up the wiring and removing unnecessary additions and ensuring the risk of fire due to dodgy wiring is eliminated. Well that’s the plan but vehicle wiring and I are not good friends :-(
Bought an AULRO wheel cover for our black Puma shorty as a Christmas present for the boss so you will see that on the roads of the Hawkesbury after Christmas:-)

Hey Rob!
I've done about 1500kms these passed couple of days and I'm sooooo glad I bought a td5. 110km/hr and less than 11 l/100 - most of that w ac blasting.
She's super clean and been really well looked after by previous owner. He's a cane farmer in MacKay, nice bloke too. It's done some work, but he's kept everything oiled, greased and tight.
She's pretty much stock, so a good platform to build on.
We are off to Tassie late dec for a few weeks but I have a couple of jobs for clients to finish before Xmas. Not much time to get stuff done!
Tool storage on the tray is first priority (so I can get back to work) then snorkel and maybe new back seats to make it safer for the kids. I'd like to put some sliders/steps and brush bars on as it doesn't have a single dent in it!! They may have to wait til after tassie tho and dents may be made [emoji51] The list after that is long but the budget is not so, I'll have to be patient....
I'll try to post pics tomorrow

I have stopped purchasing for my Defender as it went to the workshop 4 years ago and still no sign of it, the only sign l do get is bull**** excuses
am getting Really annoyed, the morale of the story , never believe people who always tell you how good they are and always got a drama , l am currently writing a book on excuses and bull**** excuses, does anybody care, really frustrated[bawl][bawl][bawl][bawl][bawl][bawl][bawl][bawl]
Sorry for the hijack of the thread and as much as I don't like starting Sh**t on forums I really don't get what your deal is man? Over the last few months all you have done is hijack threads to complain about your 4 year workshop defender, but as as soon as someone asks questions about it you never respond? So to be honest I think you're just trolling as no one would ever put up with 4 years of BS from a workshop and the only course of action being complaining about it on a forum? why not actually do something about it or take it somewhere else?
Pics and details or it never happened..

I WAS! going to buy a new CFX75 Waeco. I have got 14 years out of my old CF80 until it sprung an internal gas leak on the evap coil. It's only lasting 5 days before losing half it's charge. Then I got the wife and daughters hotel bill from a stay in Italy :o:o:o:o Now it looks like I will be topping it up for the foreseeable future me thinks!

Finally fitted my bonnet mount spare wheel kit to the 300Tdi project. It was not quite as challenging as it at first appeared. One problem I have noticed the rims while steel are not standard width so I have had to use a couple of short lengths of pipe to be able to tighten the retaining plate to ensure there is no movement of the wheel on the bonnet. I plan to move back to standard rims at some point budget permitting. It came with 265/75 16 (I think). Anyone have a set of standard 16in rims they no longer require?

What have I brought for the 'ol brit in the last few weeks?
7in LED spotlights - AWESOME, can see for miles!
40in Roof LED bar - yet to install.
2 x read 4in LED work lights (mounted above rear quarter windows)
ARB switches, and dash fascia modification plate (compressor, fridge, LED bar, LED spots, rear lights, USB, headlight) - I'm not a fan of the factory H/light switch.
I love flea-bay!

About $350 worth of headlight goodies to kill/solve the defender headlight gremlins.
Traxide kit is bloody amazing but sadly I had to acquire a new switch, bulbs and make my own signal wire..

Anyone got some rock sliders or a td5 tacho they wish to part with?

Got a slick shift, but won't put that in until after Jan when my 110 gets a service and they look at the clutch under warranty. Noisy, sounds like springs on plate or thrust bearing.

Are those the anti-vibration / security hinges?
Where'd you get them? Link?
Also I am looking for some replacement / tidy up options for the 'fake' windscreen hinges, which the paint has peeled off of.

Baintech Solar blanket did a top job of keeping the house battery (55 amp hour yellow top) charged along the bight telegraph track. Didn’t get a heap of use as we were driving most days. No numerical data as my monitor didn’t arrive in time, but a couple of hours had the battery full and was still charging in very late afternoon light.

About $800 with express delivery. Not cheap, but I love how they look (very OEM) and after a recent trip south I'm very pleased with the increased light output. In particular, the whiteness of the light seems to create more contrast on the road or something which I particularly like.
Also, full marks to Barbara at 4x4overlander.com - Supplying Overland Travellers (http://www.4x4overlander.com) for the great service. Promptly responded to my email queries and shipped my lights incredibly fast. I ordered on the 20th of December not expecting to see them until the new year and received them Christmas Eve [biggrin]
Cheers

What SIZE Solar Panels are those? I'm looking at the 180w Projecta Foldable Panels as a mate had them while we were away and they worked a treat.... Being Baintech, I assume they're fairly pricey?

Thanks for that..... Can u easily angle them up to get the most performance out of the panels or do they need to be laid flat on the ground, etc ?

Seemed fine on the ground or bonnet. Tilting would be difficult I think. Hanging them was ok, but not sure the eyelets would be up for it in the longer term.
