Since early this a:m my home phone is cutting off & reverting to dial tone after 30-40 secs on outgoing & incoming calls.
My internet is on the same line so, obviously, it's working OK.
Hoping someone here may have an answer before I have to try and deal with Kowpu, or whomever, from Telstra[bigsad]

You haven't just switched to NBN by any chance?

Not where I am, VT.
They asked if they could put the proposed tower for the area on our property but I refused. It still hasn't started construction yet on a property a little way away from us.
I am on hold with Telstra, having a calming Coopers Pale Ale, as I type.:twobeers:
Lucky the missus left her mobile with me while she swans around The Kimberly, hey, as I lost my mobile last July & am not looking at replacing it.

How's this for modern day efficiency.
Telstra have found a fault in the line to my property and have scheduled a technician to attend this Friday. Someone over 18 y.o. has to be here (me) & when I inquired as to a time the reply..................................."No later than 7:00 p.m.":wallbash:
Two weeks ago I had to go up to my Mums place as the NBN tech was changing her connection. Now, Mum's 91 and getting a bit mentally challenged so I stated I wanted to be there when the tech was there.
I received an email the evening before the booking to remind me he'd be there between 13:00 & 17:00.
I arrived at 13:01 only to have my Mum tell me that all was done and dusted.
He had arrived around 10:00.
Now, I'd stopped what I was doing, showered and driven 40 minutes only to be told this.
Telstra wouldn't survive if they had competition.
End of Rant

They have competition. Their public relations is not as good as Telstra's.

Telstra do not connect the NBN. NBN does. It is a separate entity. You may use Telstra on the NBN, but you can use a lot of other companies too.

Lyonsy, it's as dry as the proverbial Dead Dingo's! Hasn't rained since June.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, in 2010, when we had severe weather, Telstra carried out a "Temporary" repair to our line by attaching said line to some gum trees along our road frontage. Last night I was mulling over whether or not, in seven years, the trees may have grown and the line hasn't.[bigsad]
Seriously, how long is a repair "Temporary"?
Telstra make our electricity contractor, Energex, appear as almost a Deity.[biggrin]
Got an SMS from T this a.m. saying they think they've solved the problem & to try the phone.
Where yesterday I at least had a dial tone, all I have now is a prolonged beep.

That's probably the dial tone you get when a diversion has been put on the line, usually to your mobile. Try dialling "#21#" to cancel it. The phone should dial out as normal with that tone.

Thanks for that. Forgot all about it.
Sadly, still have original problem after cancelling divert.

Seriously, you're asking this on a Land Rover forum? [bigrolf]
On another note, have you checked the Upcoming Trips area?

Trees grow from the top, so unless the line was strung to the very top of the trees, growth will not be problematic. More likely the nails have rusted away. [wink11]

Correct, Ian. Badly worded on my part. I was thinking more along the line of branches.
I might grab the bino's and go and have a butchers at the line.

We have had constant problems with our line over the last 2 months, Telstra tech came out and tried to tell us it was a faulty phone socket where the modem is yet replaced the one near the phone so he said ( which he didnt as i fitted the socket and it was covered in dust ).
2 days later with same issue a another tech came out, he was a young bloke and very thorough and found a fault in a cable in between the 2 pits in our court.
A month later and we are having the same issues, young bloke said they should pull thru new cable but said they wouldnt as it was a big job.
Since Monday the internet has been unusable and phone line has more crackle than a pork roast.

My phone's sort of working again. Still intermittently crackly. The Telstra tech still hasn't shown.
Got a call today from a brother in law who was out Nanango way. He saw a Telstra van pulled up on the side of the road so stopped and asked if all was OK. The bloke said he was a bit lost so the BIL asked if he was looking for my address[biggrin]

Woke this morning to the phone constantly ringing and when i pick i get the recorded message " your call could not be connected " , funny as i hadnt called anyone and the line was so bad i couldnt anyway. On the phone for an hour with ISP and ran thru the whole crap yet again and he tried to tell me that the fault was fixed yet 5 secs earlier also told me he can see constant dropouts on our line [tonguewink], i said how can it be fixed if i have no internet, no dial tone and line is crackly as all get out. Finally they lodged a fault and the waiting game begins - again.

Numerous others have had similar problems, which is why complaints to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman have skyrocketed, but you must go through the telcos complaints process first.

No NBN yet, expected late next year which is why they dont seem to fixing it properly. Really needs new cabling but it will require the street being dug up.
