Hi all, not sure whether to post this in wanted/for sale, parking lot or here but here goes.....
My good lady would like one or two budgies as pets. Looked after the one from kindy and loved it.
Anyway, I am just too darn tight to pay $40-$60 each from a pet shop for something that does not earn its keep
Wondering if anyone in Melb can help out :?:
I don't expect free and am happy to part with some cash for your trouble https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ .

Regards
Ralph

Hi Ralph
We have an aviry full of the bloody things     I will open the door and tell them to fly to Melb
Seriously,DONT GO TO PETSHOPS most are breeders cast offs.Look in Trading post or what ever your local is.Get a BABY the younger the better, even if you need to spoon feed it for a few weeks. It will then be able to be handled easily, fly around the house etc and will talk.
Goodluck

Mate, Melb is bird breeder city, there will be somone in your street that breeds budgies, check Saturdays paper(whatever it is down there)in the pets or birds section of the classifieds.

Had budgies as pets my whole life, I reackon they are great, cheap and very entertaining if you get them young enough to start with and train.

Just don't tread on them https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ 8O , they dont survive and the kids will hate you. (well mine hated me for a while).

I was worried that this might be a thread on budgie smugglers. 8O

Thankfully not.

Go the whole hog and get a wedged tail eagle and feed it budgies https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

Nah, some of the kids here are right into pets and they dont get them from the pet shops, there are always breeders nearby, as Landyandy said the trading post or similar would have plenty in. Matt

Looks like there's a few of us, have lots of budgies, breed like rabbits (or budgies).

But $40 - $60 is unbelievable! I've bought several (all varieties) from a breeder nearby for $8 and I bought a cute yellow latina from a petshop in Lismore for $16 recently (and they're supposed to be expensive). Get friendly with a breeder who will let you in all the secrets about budgie care.

Normal breen and blue budgies are plentiful and cheap, like $15 max in a petshop, but the tricky colour birds can get a bit exey, I've seen 'em in Gold Coast petshops for around $40-$50.

Have fun, and get 'em a decent sized aviary, so they can fly.

A bloke in Lismore sold 240 a while back for $10 each and there were some real beauties!

Cheers, GQ

My Uncle had a whistling eagle when we were kids, the highlight was to catch live rabbits and chuck in the cage. Fun for young and old.
