The range of current (sorry!) TESLA cars can be extended by 30 to 40 miles... with a few keystrokes from TESLA head office. - Normally only available as an extra co$t, but TESLA remotely extended the battery capacity of all TESLAs in Florida, allowing them to escape Cyclone Irma.

All hinges on the TESLA practice of remote, wireless updates for their cars.
Or whilst you're asleep, the car is chatting with Mummy & Daddy.

--Anthropomorphism at a whole new level !

I probably know more about Tesla S than I ever wanted to know after watching several Rich Rebuilds Youtube videos on rebuilding flooded Teslas and damaged ones. Great stuff.

A few of the highlights

One for sale on Craigslist for 20K when Tesla approved repairs were 17K , that consisted of about $1500 in actual damage.

If a Tesla is written off, then you have to pay Tesla 2-4 K to recertify the car. If not it cannot be supercharged or get updates.( although if the write off is not reported , then the Tesla may work. It's a lottery)

Tesla will not supply even body parts to non approved body shops.

Elon Musk said that as mechanics get more experienced they will become more commonplace but he doesn't allow any info or diagnostics to be supplied to mechanics.
Brave New World.

it's a closed shop, anti competitive and monopolistic.

Diyelectriccar.com has lots of info on Telsa hacks . There is a good supply of used Tesla drive units , people are retrofitting into ICE cars . No support from Tesla but there is lots of workaround solutions.

e.g. EVTV Motor Verks Store: (http://store.evtv.me/products.php?cat=1)

I can even charge my EV LandRover from a Tesla destination charger , apparently it should not work but the Charger handshakes with my EVSE & thinks my car is a Tesla , wont work on a Supercharger of course.

I have a Range extended Electric Vehicle , just drive slower. Normal driving range = 80Km

Drive slower Range = 250km , Doing the maths . I did a 33km trip with an average speed of 30kmh had 88% battery remaining .

heres that trip, 30km condensed into 5min , speeds are bottom left corner

and just for fun

My Tesla does already about 300-350kms at motorway speed on one charge, more so when driving with lower speed. These 'range extenders' are just crap and one of the last straws the traditional motor industry is hanging on to.

I watch quite a bit of rich rebuilds on YouTube haha.
Really good stuffs.

I get the itch to get myself an EV. waiting for more government subsidy....

Either DIY or buy a mass manufactured one
