Time it takes to replace transfer case?

Hi all. How long would it take for an experienced transmission mechanic to remove a transfer case in a d2, remove the output housing from the old one and fit it up to the new transfer case and fit up new case to vehicle?

Can't help with a D2, but I'm thinking it's very close and similar to a D1 in terms of stuff that's needed to be done.

I had my D1 auto done at 4WD Industries about a year ago and they estimated a 5hr labour charge.
I was there all up 6 hrs(pre booked to get it done same day, as I came up from Melbourne).
I was in their workshop from 8AM to 2PM all up.

I know they had it cooling down for the first hour, and after the T/C was done, they recommended I have the serpentine tensioner replaced, and serpentine belt replaced too.
Also did my donut thingy(rear uni-joint thing).

I think all up they must have charged me 4.5hrs labour for the T/C as the total labour charge was 5 hrs(including the donut and the tensioner+belt).

4 hours sounds about right, if the mechanic has experience in doing the job and nothing goes wrong. There could be an exhaust pipe that needs to be removed from under the TC, so making sure all the manifold nuts aren't seized and about to snap the studs might expedite things.

If yours is a v8 then there are a few more bits to disentangle and as said the engine pipe needs to come off. 5hours is about right.

Front housing? Maybe add sn hour if it is filthy and also replacing intermediate shaft orings etc.

Taking stuff apart is pretty quick. Clesning checking and reassembly isn't.

I think i would quite 6 for a v8 and swapping output housing. If any studs in manifolds break etc add on whatever extra time...

Interesting question, 'remove output housing' which end, front or rear ?, with typical LR design competence they shimmed the wrong bloody end [smilebigeye], so depending which end could mean a total re shim. Exhaust off so both cross members out and there's always the unexpected. If I'm the punter paying $130 per hour I'd want to make bloody sure I'm paying an experienced LR mechanic to do the job as opposed to a 'general' competent mechanic. I'd be allowing at least $1k for labour and be bloody ecstatic if it cost me less. :)
