Prop shaft slop - how much should there be?

How much slop/slack should there be on the front prop shaft? From transfer box to diff, my front one slops about 5 degrees, whereas my rear one has none. There's a bit of a shudder when I take off due to this I think. I can't see that is any good for the diff or transfer box.

The diff/transfer box connecting bolts to the shaft are solid and not moving.

Is this what is referred to as backlash or is that only within gearboxes?

You must have the best one in the universe.
Up to about 15-20 degrees would be common with an LT230 and the diff backlash.

My Prop is pretty tight, but my tail whipps like a jocky rideing a donkey,... thats my excuse for getting a rear difflock and better axles past the girlfriend,.. now all i need to do, is find some at a good price

Thats what I thought. There shouldn't be any slop in the uni or slip joints.

Whole drive line I suppose (depends on what you call the whole drive line!) When it's parked, grab the front prop and twist it. No slop in the uni joints.

If 15-20 degrees is common, why is there none between the LT230 and Sals diff? (I could have been misjudging the slop too, but there's definitely no more than 15 degrees)

Try taking the handbrake off and putting it in neutral (wheel chocks, safety etc etc) and then rotating the prop shaft.

About an inch (or 25mm) of turn backwards and forwards seems to be normal.
