I'd heard about (on facebook) of an interesting "transplant", so today I paid a visit to Les Richmond Automotive
to have a look at an immaculate black Puma 90 that has been the recipient of 6.2L & around 400HP of LS3 V8....
To say I was impressed would be an understatement, very impressive "Ö.E." standard conversion,...this will be one very impressive machine.
Never been there before, so big thanks to Andrew Richmond for taking the time with me to show how it all happens. I'm sure this won't be news to some, who have their work done there, but to me, a newby, I thought it was very impressive,......because as some would know, I do like my V8s!

I want to do this to my D90 when I kill the 2.2. No kill like overkill I say! Hopefully it wont be my daily by then; or hopefully it is.... hehehe

I seem to remember from somewhere that with the LS2 you can rotate the intake manifold so that the MAF and throttle body is up against the firewall rather than down at the radiator. Makes plumbing in your existing snorkel etc really simple.

Has anyone who is a member here had the LS3 conversion done to their Puma?
Im very interested in Andrew Richmond’s conversions with Auto gear box, but just can’t find actual owners comments anywhere.
I would be surprised that anyone who does such a major mod to their Defender isn’t a member here.
Im also very impressed with the LRA You Tube site. Andrew has posted quite a few great videos of their work.
I really need to get down to Melbourne to visit his workshop with my 110.
Thanks for any info re this if available.

Like I said, I have only been there to look at a Def 90 fitted with an LS3, and was shown it by Andrew.
I've no connection with the place at all (so no "sales pitch" here), so I was very impressed that Andrew (who took over the business from his father) took the time to show me the LS engined D90.
He's a really nice guy, I reckon you just ought to give him a ring to discuss what you "envisage"!

I know of 2,
one I have seen in the flesh and was passenger for a spin around the block. I seriously looked factory, auto with paddle shifters and full air suspension, zero driveline slop. He has since moved on for land rovers.
The other one is in SEQ and I don’t believe he logs into AULRO these days. I reckon this conversion would be sweet as well and be looking very factory.
I think you’ll fine that a good percentage of guys doing quality conversion on landy are not on here.......too many nay sayers.

Forgot to mention, LRA have a good facebook page with a fair bit of info, pics, etc, I reckon ya'd see the black 90 that I viewed on there.

Yep, great Face Book site and You Tube videos.
What a fantastic installation! Im more interested in the V8 LS3 Auto conversion than ever now.
A toss up between the benefits of Grinnas’ 3.2 Puma, vs LRA’s LS3 and Auto Box.
Just waiting for my house to sell!
I wish there were actual owners posting on here re benefits vs downsides. Couldn’t see any down side to the 3.2, apart from I’m not aware of anyone having it done and converting to a suitable 6 speed auto. Just concerned with the LS3 re petrol availability for remote travel, but I do have 250 litres of fuel capacity, which would give me I expect about 1500kms out of the V8, so I’m sure not a real concern.
Hhmmm, what to do.

Hello Baytown.
I reckon that if you were SERIOUSLY interested in an LS3 conversion, LRA would arrange a demo drive for you, then Ya'd be "hooked"!
When I was there, and like I said, I've only been there once, the black LS3 90 was there, and Andrew apologized that, at the time, it wasn't driveable, otherwise He would've, "taken me for a spin"!
IMHO a 3.2 whilst being good, & might indeed suit some, but I reckon that in relation to an LS3, ya're only half way there. I did speak to Andrew about the supercharged LSA. He said they'd put a few into Range Rovers, but because of its power, "there were engineering issues with a Defender", which would make it very difficult to get engineering approval.
