Hi All,
just putting my sump back on and notice that in the workshop manual it shows a small length of angle (no. 52 on the diagram) but mine was abscent when I removed the sump. Can anybody shed some light on the material it is made from as I'll make a new one. Plus would like to know what order it is fitted in?
many thanks,
M

I have a new one I will tate a photo of it & get the dimentions for you in the next couple of days. It is made of rubber that would need to be oil resistant. I think it only stops water & dirt going up between the rear of the motor & clutch housing. I bought it from Four Wheel Drives but that was at 25 years ago & never titted it.. there are 3 steel spacer sleves go in the holes in the rubber to stop the rubber crushing & a steel flat bar clamping plate.. I also have an old one some were that has gone hard but would be good to copy if you want to make one . I think new ones are also available in the UK

Their website was never that good and they've recently changed hands.
Best to phone them, their part number is A20. They were selling them some years back for $5 but they are listed at $11 in an old catalogue.

If you have time can you send me an image of the seal. I can't find one anywhere and will have to make one up.
Thanks,
M.

OK here is what I have , I have traced around the actual seals & backing plate on a A4 sheet of paper. The measurements are as near as I can get due to trying to measure rubber & my eyes not being that good[bigsad]
I also looked on the John Craddock site on page 6 of there S1 parts catalog under engine parts they list ,
Seal Sump to Flywheel Housing P/N 231480 9.56 pounds & also Packing Strip Rear Sump P/N 231479 @ 6.65 pounds . I am thinking the packing strip is the metal backing plate , but don't quote me.
If you are going to make the seal your self it will need to be made out of a oil resistance rubber.
Hope this is of some help , if you can't not read the drawing I will go over it with a darker pen & scan it again.

I tried to make one but resigned to Ordering the item from JC in the UK. Thanks for the images and time in helping me on this one. I've kept the sketches for future reference.
