With some of the discussions going on here and members posting their dash cam videos from time to time, I thought I'd start a thread on it so we have one repository for all of these.

ALL NORMAL FORUM RULES APPLY SO IF YOUR VIDEO CONTAINS SWEARING, PLEASE EDIT IT OUT BEFORE POSTING A LINK HERE!

I'll kick it off with an L Plater getting a lesson from a professional instructor the other day - the instructor needs some lessons on what a stop sign is, but more likely the poor L plater got a good talking to about what a stop sign is.

So, post away, I'll have to edit my potty mouth out of a lot of mine before I can post them here, so I'll get started on it.

I have a vid of an AFP vehicle doing exactly the same thing, I have NO idea how to link the vid from the dashcam to this site though.

I upload them to YouTube then link them here. A YouTube account is free, and it's pretty easy to do - once you are logged in, click the 'Upload video' button, browse to where you have it located on your computer, then upload it. Give it a try and see how you go. :)

Any vids shot of me tailgating a P plater, or other driver, doing 80km/k in the right hand lane of the Geelong to Drysie stretch will be referred to their optometrists for ignoring 3 huge signs that say ' Keep left unless overtaking'.

One more before I head to bed. This was on the Eastern Freeway - a car merges from the left entry ramp, then takes 2 lanes at once - I don't think he head checked and I must of been in his blind spot - dip **** stared at me dumb when I pulled up along side of him and gave him a death stare - the passenger quickly looked down - I think he saw more than the driver.

Yeah, go on - you know you want to!

Me fitting this camera became a must about 6 months ago after a couple of complaints against me - both times had I had footage, it would have proven I did nothing wrong - thankfully my Boss backed me both times, but it was getting beyond a joke, so I went and got one. In nearly 20 years of driving sign written company vehicles, this has only happened to me a few times - and 2 of those were this year. The standard of driving on our roads is plummeting.

I drive close to 1,000KM per week, mostly around Melbourne and Vic, so get to see some of our finest drivers at work. Most of the time I record things that just make me smile - speeders, cars running red lights, cutting in front of me, etc. I'm a laid back driver and mostly just continue on without missing a beat - you'll see some of those clips in due course. :)

I know what you mean about taking a laid back attitude (glad I finally learnt that lesson). I'm on the road at least 6-7 hrs a day and treat most road users like they are trying to kill me, so drive defensively. No use getting too upset about most incidents (no harm, no foul) as another idiot, even dumber than the last usually makes an appearance sooner rather than later! If I got upset at everyone who did something stupid in front of me on the road I would have had a stroke already.

I do however recognise the same work vehicles (trucks, vans, couriers, tradies) on a regular basis and always cut them some slack (ie, when merging, reversing, etc), and they do the same for me. This is a nice form of payback for all the morons out there and I always feel better after those occasions.

Move to about .26 seconds in. The same car did a few miles of overtaking on the left moving in and out of a bike lane.
The other video of the same car doing the VIP drive tricks[thumbsupbig] Chatting on his phone while driving is also very clear in another video which police were happy to have. They have a nifty file upload tool they can SMS to you.

VICPOL rocks on this occasion as they usual do [thumbsupbig] There was a line of trafic jam not turning or anything nasty just a busy day where most people drive patiently and well.

There are plenty of Land Rover drivers out there we don't know - like the ****wit that tried to push in a queue the other day by driving up the grass beside the freeway then spat on every car that blocked him from getting in - including mine.

I drive often in a single lane road (Balwyn rd) Its a PITA as often jam packed. Some VIPs think speeding down a bike lane and trying to force there way back into the line is cool. Four plus on dash cam speeding up to a parked car and then sounding there horns to encourage people to be polite. Dash cam would have all Rego details - The Black Rangie ..... should I ????[biggrin][biggrin][biggrin] Have to edit a well dressed Defender with AHN on it is always polite. 90% plus are polite. I'm coming around to the proposition that too many / most dash cams have a programmed life around 2 years... regardless of price or even brand. My $70 cheapie died - again - by destroying the memory card, so it was dissected in mid-journey. [bigsad]. Replacement probably a cheap UNIDEN on SALE... The 'Bus' camera, a more expensive UNIDEN has developed 'Cognitive Aberrations', such as defaulting to One Minute file Size... Yes, 60+ seperate files per hour. And needing a phone to make adjustments is wearing thin... Yes, even expensive brands, - have a Black cloud hovering...if you get the drift.

Best so far was the VIOFO, strange wedge looking creature, but delivered faultlessly for > 2 years. Son sold the car with camera still installed....[bigsad][bawl]

And you need to pay $$$ for a decent card, eBay bottom of barrel stuff only suits music players, IMHO

Very hit and miss I think. Daughter and Son have gone through multiple units - around 2 years is about right, but the 2 in my car are very long lived - one is the company camera (it's a company car) and that was put in when the previous car was new - a 2017 Hilux and now in my Dmax and still going. Not great specs compared to new cameras but it does the job fine. It is part of a network we run and they are very reliable. I think we have around 40 cameras all in (multiples on most vehicles and up to 7 on the bigger trucks) and I've only seen one die in my time here. They are $1,400 a pop though so you'd expect them to last a while. I as run my Blackvue as it's easy to get footage off and that's in its third vehicle now and around 4 years old.

I had a Uniden thing. It was useless. Blackvue have a good rep, as Gav says. Often though, the biggest problem with them is the SD card. Need a good quality one, and they don't last forever. I have to replace the one in my drone regularly if I want to keep footage safe.

The one in my L322 wouldn’t stick to the screen. When I checked the suction cap, I found the loop at the back had failed. I super glued it up and that worked gor a while then the suction cap split. So I double-sided taped it to the screen. That worked.

Yesterday, the thumbscrew that locks the camera angle disintegrated so the camera moves from side to side with cornering forces.

Naturally, replacement parts are not available.

Problem is.... the cheapies on evilBay are just that, you need pay more for the ones. 'meant'. for dash-cams. Also, shrt file sizes are a killer.
The more times a card is written to, the shrtr it's life, so small files are not space-efficient as there must be a small overlap of the previous one...

Also, brand name cards may be safer as well... You'll know by relative pricing !

Otherwise, treat cards as a consumable item. [bigsad]. - As can be many dash cams, about 12 to 18 months, and 30 months max, the "capacitor". models lasting longer. Seems to apply to all and any brand, including the most $$$

My next one will be cheap, larger screen, suction cap and NO need for a WiFI interface ![biggrin]

I've had almost 5 faultless years out of a Blackvue 750X 2ch. in the Subaru Impreza. As far as the SD card is concerned, I do a "quick" reformat (FAT32) every 6months or so as recommended. I bought it from "Dashcams Australia". About a year ago I bought a Blackvue770X 2ch from them for the Grenadier. I rarely worry about reviewing the footage ..but again, reformat the card each 6months.

I have a "Kapture KPT-850" which was bought for me as a present in ~2018. It's a cheap JB Hifi knock off of a Blackvue. 1080p and 64G card limit with external GPS. I did have to re-focus and lock the lens in the first week I had it, but since then has been pretty good.

I use Sandisk Ultra cards. It currently has a 250G card in it which gives me about 4 months of footage. For a < $200 unit it has done a credible job.

I do pop the card out a couple of times a year generally when my dickhead detector has gone off and I want to copy to the laptop, but never needed to re-format a card. I do replace the card every couple of years, but only because I keep seeing how far I can push the size. My next purchase will be a 512G.

I wanted a Blackvue, and my old man has one in his 200 series, but to be honest for ~4x the cost at time of purchase my cheapie has been just as good.

Bought a basic $80 eBay dash-cam and a couple of new, more $$$. memory cards.... Today, thought I'd run it and compare with the UNIDEN currently in service. (with a dirt-cheap eBay card...). Ha ! Camera would access all it's settings... except to format the brand-new card... or apparently, even recognise it has a card installed... Yes, it IS. in the right way round, and these two AND a 'used - but - formatted' card were equally spurned.[bigsad]
- So I've sent back a message to the vendor, asking "Why?" We wait with bated breath...
Funny thing is, the previous cheap and cheerful eBay cameras - Vioffo the classic, have all worked faultlessly and with very cheap eBay-sourced memory cards.
(Yes, the Vioffo was the best, - #1 son left it in the car he sold... the one he. "bought". from me....)190261190262190263
