Hi All,
I have the internals of my steering relay all together using the cable tie method, and now I want to put the end caps on.
I acquired double lip seals as other forum postings suggest, and I have also acquired a tube of Hylomar, blue goop in yellow tube / box.
I realise I should put Hylomar on the inside surface of the seals to mate with the shaft, but should I also put it on the outside of the seal as well, i.e. the surface that mates with the end caps ? The box says to apply it to both surfaces and wait for the solvent to evaporate, but then the stuff is not as fluid any more. Or should I just push the seals in with no Hylomar, "wet" Hylomar, "dry" Hylomar, some oil or nothing at all to help it seat in the end caps ?
BTW I bought a new old stock genuine shaft, so the shaft surfaces that mate with the seals are smooth as, so maybe I shouldn't even bother with the Hylomar ?
Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
John
