I must be mad. Not only have I got Disco 1 thru 3 sitting in back yard I have now got a Series 2A 88in 2 1/4 petrol for me and...for therapy, mind you, a 2A 88in Diesel for my Dad. Using Clifton Scientific, both are suffix B trucks so are 63-66 era. The puzzle for me is, How many 2A 88in Diesels came into the country. Best I can find is 26000 were manufactured from 61 to 70 worldwide. Also, is there info available to get a closer build date. Both are PMC trucks.

The diesel is rather special. It has been spec'd with a Turner engine driven winch. Should make an interesting resto thread. Any info or links , thanks in advance[smilebigeye]

Righto, the story so far. The Wangaratta diesel is now happily living in the sunshine state. My Dad is attacking the strip down with gusto. We decided to locate another donor 2A. Found one in Stanthorpe. The Stanthorpe car will supply the truck cab for Dad's diesel and the front panels and tub for my cab chassis. The D3 did the relocation work admirably...except for an embarrassing situation on the Hume freeway between Pheasants Nest and Sutton Forest...ran out of fuel! Did anyone know the easiest way to bleed the D3 is a piece of twig to push in that little shraeder(?) valve on top of the engine? (The towy who bought out my breakdown insurance allocation of diesel was not happy I got it going) Dad's diesel to Brisbane and my donor chassis back to Melbourne.

Before we moved the Wang Diesel to Qld, my dad started stripping the Stanthorpe donor car down to the chassis/engine/gearbox/transfer case. Recovered all the parts that were serviceable..(including brake reservoir:-) )List included,

The chassis was pretty rusty around the rear suspension but we kept as much intact chassis as possible for panel repairs on the two good chassis. My cab chassis appears ok but the Wang diesel is almost as bad as the donor car. The cross member behind the transfer case and the front two cross members are in excellent nick. As is the chassis itself. Should get a few sections that will allow for repairs.

The donor cab is a bit of an interesting kit-

Understand it is a 3/4 rear cover that attaches to this track but where and what is still available?

Hello from Brisbane.

The 3/4 canopies for the 88" trucks are readily available new from the UK (e.g. Exmoor Trim), and I have seen a new one offered locally on eBay.

The challenge will be more getting the correct hood stick set or fabricating one. Because the truck cab uses the front two holes where one of the two hoops for a full canopy would ordinarily go the 3/4 canopy has a modified arrangement for that hoop - you can see where the base plate for that bolted to the side in your attached photo. The middle half hoop sits on shorter cross braces as well. You can also buy the correct hoop sets from the canopy suppliers, but I suspect the freight cost might be a deal killer.

Take a look at the Exmoor website and you can at least see what is involved.

Cheers,

Neil
