I've dismantled too much already. I've started at the headlight.
Where is the earthing point for the headlights on these vehicles?

On most coil sprung Land Rovers there is a ring terminal onto the inner guard; I guess I'd be surprised if 6x6 are different. If you can fit your arm into the guard - probably only possible on the driver's side - feel at the front vertical edge of where the inner guard meets the guard top. There will be a bolt with the ring terminal on it (both sides).
You can see it if you take the front flare off, but that's a pain. I guess you might be able to see it with the headlight bowl out too.

Headlight bowl is out. Still can't see it. There's a vaccuum tank in the way.
I think I'll have to remove the indicator and parker.
As long as I know I'm looking in the right area. I'd hate to be pulling it all apart only to find it's easily accessible on the firewall.

Well, I removed the wheel arch. I had to destroy the push rivets to do it.
Behind the wheel arch there are the connection blocks for all the earths. The indicators and parker are thin wires. The headlight is a thick wire.
The front indicator and parker are earthed via the lamp holder. The headlight is partially earthed via those same two points and another thin wire that is connected between the connection block under the guard and somewhere else.
I traced this earth wire to an eyelet flapping in the breeze near the bonnet stay. I'd say that was my problem.
Does anyone know where that eyelet is meant to be connected?
I knew I should have left the wheel arch well alone.

Thanks. I'll look for the connection point.
I don't think it is the same setup as yours. The eyelet is much smaller and was not in a loom.
Is yours a 4x4 or a 6x6?
Yes, I am being pedantic. I have my reasons.

So, I solved the earthing issue, I think.
I was in the parking lamp assembly. The parking and indicator lamps earth directly to the body via the fitting. They also have an earth wire from the fitting to a connector https://www.aulro.com/afvb/images/imported/2018/03/61.jpg where the earths for the lighting on the RHS are connected together. So, it looks as though the lights on the RHS are all earthed through the RHS parker and indicator.
Where the earth wires attach to the fittings were so badly corroded there was little electrical connection. The earth wire in the parker had actually detached.
I fitted new light fittings.
All was working Saturday evening.
