just wondered what peoples thoughts were on CDL kits ... ie, who, how much, etc. i was really stuck the other week out the back of big river & am quite sure that with the CDL it wouldn't have been an issue. ended up with three people on the bullbar bouncing up & down before i finally got out. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ thanks.

The CDL kit for the S2 Disco is a great addition to the cars offroad ability.
Costs for the CDL kits are usually between $400 and $700 depending on whether you go manual or electric activation.
The result of the CDL means that Traction Control has to work far LESS than without, which means less wear and tear on the ABS modulator.
On the electric activated ones at least, you can engage the CDL, cycle the ignition, and have Traction Control and ABS deactivated, meaning the vehicle is equivalent to a standard 4WD with a 50/50 power split front/rear. This has its advantages when you just don't need the TC kicking in all the time.
What I've found is that with the CDL in, and tyre pressures correct for the terrain, the TC barely makes a noise, meaning less wear and tear.
I have the AMV electric activated CDL which is quick and easy, and activated by a pushbutton.
Hope this helps

I will try and find the post and bump it up for you.
Makes a huge difference and you get the choice of traction control or disabled traction control.

Easy to answer Ralph :-)

A CDL is your Centre Diff Lock. You should already have one ;-)

For some braindead reason though LR removed them in the Series II discos from 2000 :?: => 2002 (I think those are about the right dates). In the 2002 TD5 they even removed the actuator on the transfer case, so you could never engage CDL.

On the other models they still had the actuator, they just didn't include the switch in the car. The "CDL" kits we're talking about here are basically the in-car switches for enabling the actuator on top of the transfer case...

Ralph

its the little gear stick in front of the big one,,

and if you havent found it yet,, you may not need one https://www.aulro.com/afvb/

sorry Ralph,,
it basically ensures both front and back diffs turn at the same revs.
a VERY handy thing off-road.https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
as it gives you (only) 2 wheels that drive. If you want more than 2, then you need to lock one of the diffs(buy and install a "locker")
3 driving wheels is a BIG advantage in extreme conditions, BUT, about 95% of Disco's will never need more than 2.
