Is it ok to have a tray wider than the roof rack

Hi,

I've inherited some concealed roof racks (they are flush at the end), which causes them to be shorter than a "through" bar.
I'm looking at getting a rhino steel mesh platform which will be attached via u bolts. The specs say the tray needs to be
narrower than roof rack bars. Is there a safety issue if this is not the case? I'm short by about 8 cm on either side.

I'm trying not to buy another set of bars.
