Hey All,
I currently have a 3.9L V8 Rossginol with a blown head gasket and warped block which pretty much requires a new engine https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ I got an e-mail from a guy on here (Sean) who saw my plight on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...ADME:B:AAQ:AU:1 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4611416050&sspagename=ADME:B:AAQ:AU:1)
I don't want to let my Landrover go... I'd dearly love to save her...
Can anyone help me???????
You can e-mail me direct at afrodsham@deloitte.com.au
I am based in Sydney / Wollongong.
I apologise that my first post is a cry for help!!
Regards,
Andrew (aka Archie)

Hi Archie,
There are several options, all depending on how much you want to spend.
Assuming the gasket blew because of the block and the heads are ok ( you should get them checked ) you are after a complete lower, ie: no heads, disributor or manifold.
A trip to a wreckers and you should be able to negotiate what you need, but the problem is you don't know the engine and will sooner or later have to go through the whole thing again.
Porbably the best option would be to see a mechanic, buy a reconditioned lower, have them check your heads and do any head reconditioning ( probably will need it ) and get them to instal it.
That way, you will have some warranty and they will ge the correct or best block to suit.
With this sort of thing, it's best to cop the expense and get it all done and refurbished at once. It will save you a lot of money and drama in the long run.

I had a look at your ebay listing. I think it would be worth you finding a replacement engine. It looks a very tidy car, worth hanging on to.
Call KLR Automotive 02 4721 3675. They may have an afordable option for you.

Damo, she's almost identicle to mine. I've got the LR wrap around bull bar and a goodly amount of off road scarring. 8)
Other than that and an extra 60000 or so k's she's the same vehicle.

I'm trying to figure out if can afford to bid on it! Just rip the 3.5 out of mine and stick it in under the EFI manifold and GO.

Keep an eye out for a cheap motor if you need it as a run around. Should be able to pick one up for a few hundred.
Then get a good block and slowly start building the engine you want. Hopefully there is a lot of gear you can salvage off yours. Maybe heads, efi, crank? Blocks are a dime a dozen. Build it from the ground up as a stroker. If you do it right and are able to do a lot of the assembly yourself you could have a great engine for about $4k.
Another option is to shop around for a good motor with warranty.
Consider dropping in a Holden V8? May be orth a look but probablly about $5k with conversion and and efi V8 5litre.
If the body and drive train are in good nick I would build a better engine.
Dam I wish I was closer and had some spare cash. Ideal project vehicle.
She must have got really hot to warp the block. Had not heard of this before.

You're right about the warped block. It's not something I have heard of before and I am going to ask about it.
My 3.5 is in great condition in spite of me! It's a 10:1 comp ratio with a stage 1 cam, so it's putting out more than normal.
If it's the heads on this engine and not the block, then it's an easy fix at home!
Archie, if you're reading this, get a second opinion on the engine, quick!

Thanks Guys,
I called KLR and spoke to Matthew, but since then I've not heard back from them (I sent in pics and a condition report) Been trying to get hold of him again but never seem to get time to call in business hours!
I have had to relist the Land rover on Ebay as I got stuffed around by people not working out the COST to transport a non running car.
IF ANYONE knows of anyone in the South Coast NSW area, who will fit or
supply a re-con 3.9 V8 Petrol engine, then please get in touch..
I'm desperate to save her, and seeing as I've had to re-list her, maybe it's a sign......
Thanks for all the posts too...
Cheers,
Archie

Great news Guys...
Managed to find a mechanic in Wollongong who will repair the engine...
My landrover should be back on the road by Thursday this week!!!
Oh whay joy!! https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Damo - Thanks for prodding Matt, it just came in a bit too late. I was waiting on news of the Wollongong mechanic when Matt called, so I've gone with the first option as they had already collected my Landrover.
So, I guess the next thing is...
Who wants to buy a FULLY WORKING Land Rover Rossignol V8 3.9.
What do these go for? It will be sold with a full 12 months Rego.
I might have it back, but I still need to sell it to get out of a financial hole.....

Sorry about that Archie, but you did find a guy near you which is better. Just watch him and make sure he doesn't rip you off. Any questions please ask.
The bum is out of Disco's at the moment but it is a rosignol so I would put it at 4-5g's. Aim to sell it to an enthusiast or collector.

According to that e-bay link you sold this car for $3000 so why are you now repairing it??
Archie

It did sell for $3000 but then the guy pulled out of the sale by giving the
lame excuse that he placed the wrong bid on the wrong car.
The second highest bidder was not enough to warrant a sale.
When I got a second chance at selling it I thought...why not just see if I
can get it fixed.

Your telling me https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
Now I have to convince my better half that the Land Rover is actually
fuel efficient, great to drive and the perfect family car. https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
she can only drive an Auto, so we either sell her (auto) car or the Land Rover!!
I think I'll take her onto a car park and get that clutch foot working!
