Gday All,

Cause I am such a tightarse I am trying to do the following, my trusty old laptop had a screen failure , my daughter has a old laptop ( different brand ) which had a H/Drive failure , so I put my hard drive into her old unit and fired it up.

The thing works but I cant get it to recognise any of the USB ports and it tells me that none of the drivers are installed. I cant get it to find the router to be able to get internet connection to access anything from the internet. it only asks for the old style connects, not the Wi-Fi router

I have managed to copy all my pics onto disc's as the D drive works, but device manager tells me the drivers and the ports are not working or installed. Its operating on window's 7 home edition which seems to be working except screen saver as the driver is not up to date.

I would only be using it for internet - like this forum , and very basic things.

Am I wasting my time or can I get it to work. I am a very basic operator so as simple speak as possible please.

Cheers Ean

Morning Sir Red!!
From my experience with Win 7---
it needs a G wifi dongle to start with,, after updates it will accept anything other than the latest AC version.
finding a still working G dongle may be the issue...

but I am not IT personified... [bigrolf]

If you look into the device manager it should show you the devices that need drivers.
You can hunt the drivers down for these devices on the net and install them to make them work [thumbsupbig]

I need to get it connected to the net. that's my biggest problem.

What are you using at the moment to access this site?

My work laptop , I try to keep them separate and that's why I am trying to do what I am. Some would say spend a few hundred and buy a new elcheapo laptop , but I hate to see things wasted so am happy to play around and try and get it to work. I may just learn a little about how these things work in the process.

If the CD/DVD is working on the problem laptop you could put a blank CD/DVD in the work laptop and burn the required drivers onto it then transfer them that way.

Use a lan cable to get it to update the drivers or search the model number for drivers.

Probably needs the LAN drivers, first - the old vicious circle rides again!

It wasn't that long ago all this could have been fixed using a simple floppy drive [bigwhistle]
